That's interesting. Isao Mizoguchi and Noriyuki Iwadare also worked together on the Langrisser (Warsong) and Langrisser II soundtracks on Genesis.

You might also consider checking VGMdb for its entry on the Blue Almanac soundtrack. RPGFan has a reasonably good review of the soundtrack.

Just to clarify, according to VGMdb, the composition credits are as follows:

Ken Suzuki (Prologue, Lotus Prison, Conclusion)
Noriyuki Iwadare (Blue Almanac, Planet Rotos, Battle, Epilogue)
Yoshiaki Kubotera (Planet Terra, Bipartite Planets Sharil & Daril, Load)
    Hiroshi Fujioka (Dungeon, Planet Radan)
Isao Mizoguchi (Planet Wien, Planet Ori, Planet Dag Narada)

(Brandon can clarify the Star Odyssey official spellings of these planet names. I don't have the manual in front of me at the moment.)

I hate it when they do that. Funny thing is that I bet it cost them more to do it that way. TechnoSoft's soundtracks were like that, too. The MD sounds so much better.

    Default just a FYI...

If you are playing "Legend of Wukong" on a clone system (retrogen for me) and the cave sequences seem insanely hard try switching to a regular genesis system. For some reason the chances of hitting the various enemies in the caves were less than 10% with the clone system. After trying to get through the bear demons cave for about the 20th time, I put it down and decided to dust of my old system 2 Genny. Lordy, what a difference. The cave was a cake walk comparatively.

To put this in perspective; I was at lvl 18 (alot of grinding after each time the bear ground me into dust) and I couldn't hit him with melee attacks so I had to use magic attacks only. I'd knock him down by about 300 points or so. Then he'd keep casting poison clouds and eventually he'd wear me down till I had nothing left.

After plugging it into the Genny I think I used like 2 spirit herbs (out of 10 or so in my inventory) and I didn't even need to us ANY magic.

Brilliant advice in general. Those clone systems aren't worth the cheap plastic they're encased in.

Brandon, if you don't mind me asking why did Zaku go on Atari Lynx? If it were on Game Gear or Gameboy (well butchered on gameboy anyway) I would've bought it. I don't know of any decent games besides Zaku that are worth getting a lynx over.

    Quoted from this interview:

Osman: I originally was interested in developing something for the GameBoy, since it was, and still is my favorite console. But I couldn't find any simple tutorials to get acquainted with how the machine works. Later on, I came into possession of a Lynx after discovering that "Chip's Challenge" was originally developed for the machine, a game I had very fond memories of on the PC. For whatever reason, I decided to try working with the Lynx hardware, and picked it up very quickly with help from Björn Spruck and Karri Kaksonen. So there really wasn't any incentive in terms of Lynx nostalgia on my part, I just grew to enjoy working with the machine.

Brandon: I've always wanted to have some hand in the creation and release of a new game for the Lynx, ever since I first set eyes on the machine.

Well, that was kind of the point, too. The Lynx is a remarkable machine, but... most of its games suck eggs. With the debut of Zaku, the Lynx finally has a fun game that simultaneously shows off all of the system's strengths.

Zaku is on the Lynx because it was programmed for the Lynx. It would be a bit butchered even on the Game Gear. It might look nicer on still screens, but the Game Gear can't handle the scrolling and scaling, etc.

I'd love to see some worthy homebrew efforts for the Sega Master System. There is even homebrew for the Neo Geo but the game is ridiculously expensive when it really need not be.

Me too! A hori shmup. Rtype turned out really good (and music too). Just imagine what a set of seriously talented dev'rs could do on the SMS nowadays with a good size cart+mapper (all sorts of dynamic tile goodness).

Finished it late last nite. Lazy level design really marred what could have been something more. Especially after chapter 3. Places I could have normally walked in Chapter 1 I couldn't seem to get through in level 4 up. Even in the dungeons, what normally looked like a passable area was impassable, due to some hidden object, I guess. I could deal with that but the last 3 dungeons were just recycled earlier dungeons. That was very disappointing. I suspect it was more to do with Gametec than Superfighter Team. Brandon does allude one point to 'developers too lazy to weather appropriate graphics'. All and all I do love what the SFT is doing and the game is still good just ok instead of spectacular.

Ha, I'm glad someone noticed that.

In fact, during the development process I looked at the possibility of "fixing" the palettes in the snowy villages. The way Gamtec designed the code, however, it wouldn't have been that simple -- we would've had to redo everything in those villages from scratch, breaking the code for other (non-snowy) villages in the process. Essentially, this would've required an entire rewrite of the village system, just to change green to white.

I decided, instead, to have a villager explain the reason (magic) why the villages had greenery whilst the world map was snowy. I couldn't resist the urge, however, to poke fun at Gamtec's laziness in the process, which is where Wukong's jab comes in.

Gamtec wasn't interested in learning the details of our reprogramming efforts, but had they been, I probably would have just summed it up as: We programmed the other 50% of your game for you.

I added Legend of Wukong to the cheapassgamer game database. I was the first person to select it as owned!

Clicked on that link just now, it was my first visit. Looked at the page it brought me to for about 5 seconds, didn't see anything interesting and I left.
