So it's not developed in Japan and is coming only to the UK? Wow, that's about as exciting as something developed by Sega of America based on feedback from focus groups. In other words, it doesn't count.

If all of this turns out to be true, and it eventually comes to the US, I'd definitely buy one. Even if it sucked.

Sega could have used that line of thought a little earlier, I think.

It's a 'cheap' MP4 player, the same kind you see for sale on stalls in shopping centres. With a Sega logo on it, and with java-ish games. Sega have emailed the places that blogged about the device - Engadget, Kotaku etc. - and corrected them about the nature of the thing. Sadly, it seems people will just see 'new Sega hardware' and flip out

LOL, well, yeah. You gotta admit though...even the systems that sucked have a certain charm to them. And even if it isn't a gaming device, I'd still support it. I'll ALWAYS support Sega...sniff...

    *gives hug*

I know, it's hard watching someone you love fall so hard.

    *pat pat*

The sad thing is, a console is really only as sucky as the games available for it. And sega's dreamcast games were awesome!

If done properly, the strength of franchises like sonic (only 2 or 2.5D, thank you) Nights, Panzer Dragoon, and Chu Chu Rocket MIGHT be enough to support a new system.

If they are going to the trouble of releasing a new device (even if they are simply putting their name on someone else's product), what's the harm in testing out the waters? Why not release with an exclusive sonic game? Or CCR 2?

Wouldn't that be more appealing to consumers than a glorified MP3 player?

Yeah, I get what you're saying. I think that Sega would definitely be a formidable force if they ever decided to release a handheld. At this point in time, it wouldn't be smart to go back and start making home consoles, simply because the competition is stiff and it's also too crowded. But I think they could definitely have a shot at the handheld scene...*crosses fingers and wishes upon a Ristar* That was gay, sorry.

Sega simply does not make smart decisions. It's never too late to start, though.

the following rant is not directed at anyone on this forum but rather the video game market in general:

the most misunderstood product of all time. ITS A CELL PHONE GOD DAMMIT, HOW HARD IS IT TO UNDERSTAND!?! ITS NOT A FUCKING PSP OR DS YOU SHIT HEADED RETARDED FANBOYS! ITS A SERIES 60 SMARTPHONE AT A BARGAIN PRICE THAT ALSO HAS A FEW DECENT GAMES FOR IT! Oh, and did I mention it emulates NES and SMS/GG perfectly, Genesis full speed without sound or playable with sound, and SNES with playable speed without sound? Yeah, that's right, its the best damn phone ever, but everyone had their head too far up their ass to realize it. Shit, I've had mine 4 years and its STILL better than any phone on the market in terms of reliability and quality. The only thing its missing is a camera and full internet access, thats it. Oh, and its a QD BTW, not the original Taco Talk N Gage.

Yeah, I want my handheld game system to be a handheld game system and I want my phone to be a phone, thanks.

Attaching a soon-to-be-hopelessly-outdated communications device to a gameboy is not my idea of revolutionary - it's just a short-sighted cash-grab by a company that has no business in the video game market.

But hey, if Sega wants a piece of that, there's a huge hole left in the market that was filled by the N-Gage for about twenty minutes.
