    Just finished:

I REALLY enjoyed this one. Joe Hill embraces being Stephen King's son, and throws in some really cool references. Dark Tower, It, etc... The story is really entertaining. The length approaches 700 pages, but the pace is quick. Took me just a week to finish, and that was while taking a few days off from reading. I HIGHLY recommend the book, it's a very fun read.

Just what the world needs another vampire book. I was actually just thinking about this thread.

The Face In The Frost, John Bellairs
It's an older book, but a good one if you can track it down. The characters are very real and likable, full of human failings and weaknesses, but heroic as well. And for anyone who has never heard of him John Bellairs wrote some of the coolest, creepiest, most horrifying children's books ever. Goosebumps got nothing on this man. ("Eyes of the Killer Robot" FTW) Face in the frost was his only adult novel and his first book, but it's a good one.

Not sure if I would expect a intricate reading session from a book based on that title.
Might have to look it up though and see if the content is better than the cover

I do read, but I'm quite picky about books. Been reading a lot of cyberpunk/hacker books and table top rpg novelizations (namely Battletech/Mechwarrior) lately

Just got done with Neuromancer and Commodork: The Sordid Tales Of A BBS Junkie (highly recommended), and I'm waist deep in about half a dozen other since I purchased a nook e-reader for myself on black Friday this past Christmas

Overall though, my two favorites that I own IRL are "The Ultimate History Of Video Games" and "Jim Henson: The Works". Borrowed those two constantly from the library when I was younger

I've already posted here but I am a user of both print books and my trusty kindle. Read a wide variety of genres, both fiction and non-fiction. I've actually finished less than I've attempted to read though. Hope to remedy that. I'm also an attempted 'writer' but not there yet, though I've completed some poetry which I consider to be satisfactory.

What did you guys think of Stephen King's non-horror stuff? I'm reading Different Seasons and have a hunch that it will become one of my favorites.

I'm about 20 pages away from finishing Hugh Howey's Shift, the second novel in the Silo series (it's great!), but until then, here's a review of the last book I read:

    My Year as a Clown

I loved this book, and I totally wasn't expecting to. After upgrading to a Kindle Paperwhite, I decided to search out some new ebooks. This book was on sale and generally had good reviews, so I purchased it on a whim. I'm very glad I did.

This is the story of Chuck, a middle-aged man who has his heart broken in the first pages of the book. His wife is leaving him for another man, and he's forced to restart his life. The book is, as indicated by the title, the story of the next 365 days in his life. You'll read about his depression, his adventures in dating, his change in feelings over his wife, and a whole bunch of crazy singing rabbi hijnks.

The book is at times sad, hilarious, and uplifting. Best of all, it's impossible to put down. Williams never leaves you hanging for long. In one chapter (presented as "days"), you'll see Chuck set up a date with someone far more attractive than he, in the next chapter, you'll live the events of that date. It's all payoff. It helps that the characters, mainly Chuck, are so well defined and relateable. Yes, his ex-wife is presented as a bit of a shrew, but as the book continues, you come to realize that Chuck isn't the most reliable narrator, and everything is through his subjective perspective.

It's just a really great book, and I can't wait to see what Robert Steven Williams churns out next.

    "WHIRLWIND" - JAMES CLAVELL, 1986

    - just started it, it'll be finishing up my run through Clavell's "Asian Saga" for the second time. incredible, unmatched reads.

BTW, i always had the impression that the cover art for the early SNK NEO GEO entry "Quiz Daisousasen" quite strongly suggests the described look and feel
of the four main characters of CLAVELL's 1980 "NOBLE HOUSE"

    * Dark Haired Man in Foreground - "IAN DUNROSS"
    * Blonde Haired Man with Glasses in Foreground - "LINCOLN ("Linc") BARTLETT
    * Blonde Woman in B. Ground - KAMILIAN CIRIANUSH ("Casey") TCHOLOK
    * Snickering Man in B. Ground - Quillan Gornt

    Recently just finished this:

    TarkinCover.jpg

Great read for any Star Wars fans. Very political, a lot about the inside dealings of the Empire but the portrayal of Grand Moff Tarkin is simply on-point by Luceno, even if he does get a bit pretentious with his word choices at times. I'd give it a solid B.

Didn't realize there was a book thread before the one I made. I read a fairly wide variety of things, I just finished "The transition of Juan Romero" by HP Lovecraft, finished reading an old hellboy comic before that.
