    Default My First Megadrive!

Okay, here is my first Japanese mega drive....now my collecting of imports can begin!

Came with everything pictured, everything is complete as well...I don't know how that copy of Barcelona '92 got in there...probably the only way the dude could get rid of it

Some cool ones like tetris, MERCS, XDR, Fireshark...cool games.

    $150 for the lot...did I get a good deal?

I really dig the blue reset button and blue start buttons on the controllers.

Lucky,I dont even have that many Genesis games.
    You got a good deal.
Does it hook up to American TVs?
    I have always wondered that.

    Cool.
I'm not so smart when it comes to regional things.
My Japanese MegaDrive probably fell out the back of a moving truck with half of my clothes.
    Moving from Japan wasnt great.

Considering the games you got you got an extremely good deal. Rockman World alone would be worth $60 I think.

    - I can make out most games, but some I don't have. Could you post a list for us ?

    Gotta love those boxarts!
The Mega Drive was far inferior to the NES in terms of diffusion rate and sales in the Japanese market, though there were ardent Sega users. But in the US and Europe, we knew Sega could challenge Nintendo. We aimed at dominating those markets, hiring experienced staff for our overseas department in Japan, and revitalising Sega of America and the ailing Virgin group in Europe.

Then we set about developing killer games.

The whole thing was $50 without Rockman in Megaworld, $150 with...so I guess i over paid

    I'll do my best:

    Rockman in Megaworld
    Golden Axe
    Magical Hat Flying Turbo Adventure
    Rainbow Islands Extra
    XDR
    Elemental Master
    Star Cruiser
A japanese beatemup with an old woodblock print as the cover
    Sonic the Hedgehog
    Super Monaco GP
3 in 1 Vollyball, columbs, Tiger
    Gain Ground
    Superreal Basketball
    Gynoug
    Fire Shark
    Atomic Robo Kid
    Mercs II
Castle of Illusion starring Mickey Mouse
    Tetris

The Tetris is no doubt a Japanese bootleg...the boxart and the label seems very cheaply printed along with the fact that there isn't a Sega logo to be found in the game itself, even when booting it up. I wonder if it still has any value?

    Wow!

    just a note:
If I see anything from Hong Kong and it looks new, I figure its a bootleg off the bat.

I no longer buy anything off of the 'bay unless its a seller I've dealt with.

Its not power instinct...its by Taito

    found it:

Mao Renjishi is what its called. Its really nothing impressive...

No, they did get original Mega Drive games in China. Bootlegs (and Chinese originals) don't have a manual. The Mega Drive and the NES were pretty much the most successful systems there, that's why you can buy NES/Mega Drive combo systems today.

Mao Renjishi isn't terrible. It's over-the-top Japanese maybe, but it plays pretty solid.

Good selection of games, and all complete! nice. 150 seems a little high to me, but there are some great shmups in there plus the Rockman title.

It does, but you have to widen the cartslot by removing the plastic clips on each side. Pretty simple actually, if you take it apart first (requires a gamebit).

It won't run Bare Knuckle II and Thunder Force IV though, and pretty much everything that was released post 1993. But you can test the games you want to buy via Gens or Kega: Just set the emulator to US, and load the Japanese ROM.

Damn, I was about to ask if I could buy Rockman Megaworld from you, I've been wanting a copy of that damn elusive game forever, WHY DID YOU HAVE TO MAKE IT SO GODDAMN RARE YOU SEGA BASTARDS! I WANT MY MEGA MAN ON MY MEGA DRIVE! Also, Magical Hat Flying Turbo Adventure...sounds spiffy. So spiffy I may have to make it into a t-shirt to let everyone know how spiffy it is.

I think the main reason you can buy NES/Mega Drive combos is because NOAC's are dirt cheap so its only a couple extra bucks to add on an NES cart slot since you've already got the power supply, AV cables, and controllers included.

any Genesis will play any region's game through a game genie if it was made before region protection. I think the newer clone systems are the only ones that will play any region post region protection without some sort of modding.
