Not calling you a liar or anything, just trying to figure out if it was a factory snafu or a sneaky trick by some kid to get a new game without paying for it.
It was brand new. Sealed and all with that wonderful chemically fresh new Nintendo game smell I used to love.. I don't think it is to far out of the realm of possibility. After all Nintendo manufactured all of the games for the 3rd parties. I am positive it was a factory fuck up.

The first video games/ systems I ever got was an old brick Gameboy with Super Mario Land. I couldn't even beat the first world I was so terrible at it.

The first game I ever purchased was Space Harrier for the Sega Master System... however I also purchased Choplifter for the SMS at the same exact time... as well as the SMS itself which came with Hang-On and Safari Hunt.

Man, this thread is bringing back a lot of golden memories of yesteryear, playing megaman at friend's birthday parties etc. I remember when birthdays used to rock, have a bunch of your hommies over, eat a bunch of pizza/cake/junkfood, stay up all night, set off black cats/bottle rockets/roman candles, stealing older brother's playboys.. Man, good times.

I can't recall the first game I actually paid for, I usually just mooched off my older brother's games or had my parents buy me computer games. I think the purchase that sticks out the most to me is when I was young I went to KB Toys in the mall and purchased Rocket Knight Adventures and Zombies Ate My Neighbors without knowing anything about them. I remember riding back in the car with my mom and brother who we picked up from soccer practice. I remember reading both manuals in the car itching to get home and try them out. When I finally got home they didn't dissappoint and I had a few new games to show my friends.

I actually have no idea, the earliest I can easily remember is some Mickey Mouse Racing game for the Game Boy Color.

I remember that game. It was developed by Rare and was pretty well-received by critics

The first game I personally bought was Sonic 2. Prior to that I had a Speccy, which my parents funded the games for. Buying Sonic 2 and playing it for the first time on my very own Mega Drive was awesome. Precious memories.

I remember not liking that game too much, but I've since heard that it was rather groundbreaking at the time.

This should show you where my head was back in the day: after seemingly endless games like pac-man and river raid, I was actually disappointed that jungle hunt had an "end"

My parents got me and my brother a Colecovision with Donkey Kong as the pack-in game for Christmas. I wanted an NES back then, but they couldn't afford it. I think they bought the Colecovision for like $14.99 at the Kaybee Toy Store. Most likely an overstocked item and plus Colecovision was a victim of the videogame crash...but we had hours of fun with it and we didn't replace it till the Genesis came out.

Yars Revenge from KB Toys. A great game and one of my favorites to this day. I'm not as good at it nowadays thanks to age dragging down my reaction time.

Deadly Duck for the Atari 2600 - which was renamed as "Duck Fighting" by CCE.
