Default The Atari lovers thread will dig this.

Yesterday at the flea market I didn't find anything Genesis. I'll be going back today but yesterday at a little video game fruit stand looking thing, I found these two for $5 all together not 5 a piece.

    Pole Position :
    Cartridge - Perfect and Pristine.
Box - Beaten up At the Edges.
    Manual - Perfect, Pristine.

    Pac-Man
    Cartridge - Pefect, Pristine
    Box - Perfect, Pristine
    Manual - Perfect, Pristine
Free Atari Catalog - Perfect, Pristine

Whats really cool about my Pacman is that the box has a price tag that says
    ----------
    Sears
    $32.99

I couldn't belleive it, 30 frikkin bucks in 1970's dollars. That had to be the equivilent to about 80 bucks at the time.

More pics in the next few minutes.

Note : If you see black spots near my hands holding a case or manual, It's just a shadow because I was standing diagonally towards a lamp to get good lighting. My hands were perfectly clean during this photo shoot.

Pole Position is a fun game, but Pac Man is probably worse than ET.

    Good finds complete!

Pac-Man wasn't THAT bad. It helps if you haven't played any other version.

Not Nessicarily, I have both The Atari 2600 cart and ROM of Pacman, and if you recall, there is a Plug & Play TV game from Namco that has the Arcade Rom of Pac-Man that I also own. I love, LOVE, both versions of Pac man, I don't think either are bad I just don't compare them. I mean, come on, trying to compare a 2600 game to an arcade game is like trying to compare a calculator to a Genesis.

Read above, it probably wouldn't be a let down or a so-called "bad game" if it was called "Ghost Maze Dot Eaters" . The reason it's a "let down" to most people is because that since it's an impressive big name title in arcades, there is a high expectation for ground breaking quality in the home version. Truth is, they honestly couldn't make the 2600 do more then that. Hence the wider maze and flashing ghosts. Since there was a higher expectation, higher rate of disapointment do to limatations, if it was a generic, whatever the hell, dollar store rip-off to Pac-Man, People wouldn't mind much.

    I bet everyone reads that hated 2600 Pac-Man, will find a new-found respect for 2600 Pac-Man.

I completely disagree for the sole reason that Ms. Pacman on the 2600 is infinitely better than regular Pacman. Ms. Pacman proves there is no excuse for Pacman.

...besides I play Ms. Pacman on the 7800 and it is so close to arcade perfect I don't bother with the 2600 version.

2600 Pacman is really bad. Like the others say, I'll just stick with Ms. Pacman. But those are some good finds anyway.

Still, I'd have to say what I said before. The only reason Mrs. Pac Man is better is because that Mrs. Pac Man was released way later and had the benefit of an 8kb ROM chip instead of Pac Man's 4kb Chip. So, In a way, Mrs. Pac Man and Pac Man are two TOTALLY different pieces of software.

Actually, the reason Pacman was so bad was that afair the game was produced in a rush, and what we got as official version was originally meant only as a demo.

I remember paying $28 for Pac-Man. I'd bought it at the local Ben Franklin, with money I'd saved and some birthday cash.

I always heard that the programmer who did Pac Man 2600 did it in just 2 hours. Shows you how much effort that went in to it. Now compare it to Jr Pac which is a far better game. Too bad it wasn't released on any other system.
