"That Japanese lady"? That "Japanese lady" happens to be the legendary voice actress Hayashibara Megumi

But on topic, as has already been noted, there are MD games that don't work in 6 button mode for some strange reason. I will add the rather awesome Alien 3 to the list. That is the only game I remember having problems. I never knew it was used for in game actions though.

You can't play Forgotten Worlds and Golden Axe II with a 6-button controller.

Therefore mode is useful, because Forgotten Worlds is AWESOME

I've had two 6-button controllers, both by SEGA, and neither had a working mode button. So I couldn't use them to play The Lost Vikings, which, if you have a 6-button controller, forces you to press mode in order to switch characters.
It may no longer be the `90s, but there is still time for Klax.

Did you buy them used? I've heard that the MODE button can wear out quicker on the SEGA controllers. If you got them new that way, you're just REALLY unlucky.

Anywho, I'm not sure about the quicker wear out theory either - none of my six buttons have a bad MODE button after 20-some years.

That is the only use I've found. But use enough.

I prefer the Turbografx version, but funnily enough, it's not compatible with the PC Engine 6-button controller either.

In the WWF games you need it so in tag modes with more than 2 men on each team you can change which partner you want to tag in.
