The extra hardware you need to make it work is hideous.

I don't see why you couldn't have a Saturn emulator on the Genesis + Sega CD. You could have full polygons and everything. Sure, the colors would be ultra diminished and the framerate would be about 1 frame per year, but it would work!

In Two seperate interviews ( Gameweek and TNL ) Yuji Naka admitted to making Famicom games run on the MD. His comments, amalgamted, were, " Oh my [laughs] How do you people know about that one? Well yeah, actually I did. I once made a Famicom emulator for the Mega Drive. It was something fun to amuse myself with at the time. I couldn't play every game with it. But it was fun to call people over and show them Mario running on a Mega Drive."
A bit taken out of Retro Gamers feature on the Mega Drive

I'd say the mod player is more likely on the SNES but the jpg viewer?

Depends, would you want greyscale, horrible colour or a 32x? :P

A MOD player is definitely possible for the Genesis, though it won't sound the greatest. It'd be mono and for a 4 channel player - it would degrade each channel to 6bits each. I'd have the 68k do the frequency scaling and mixing, and have the z80 do the playback. 16khz 4 channel @ 6bit each channel and mono is doable. You can add more channels, but the bitdepth of each channel will go down, the output will get more quieter/softer, and the resource for frequency scaling+mixing will go up.

I'd say the mod player is more likely on the SNES
There's already an XM (8channel) converter for the SPC of the SNES MOD is pretty limiting compared to XM capabilities.

the 2600 was 8bit... afaik there is no such thing as a 4-bit console.

It was powerful enough to run Williams Arcade classics.

    Yeah!

The VCS has a 6507 cpu, that is pretty much a trimmed down version of the 6502 used in the C64.
