Yes, that appears to be the ideal solution.
You just can't handle my jawusumness responces.
This thread has been making me seriously consider buying a cable like this one. I have plenty of CRTs around. If not buying the box, would the cable still do okay?

This thing has the "box" on the cable. It should work without problems....

I already have my DC running via an S-video cable to S-video input on my older CRT TV. Is there any advantage to using Racket's VGA box (the more expensive one) and running S-video out of it to my TV? My TV only has composite, coaxial and S-video inputs (it's fairly old).

Ow! My small intestine!
The picture is slightly better than with a modern HDTV, but the difference is barely noticable at all, and since HDTVs usually provide a much bigger screen than a regular CRT monitor I usually would recommend an HDTV.
In your case though, since you don't plan buying a new TV, but will get a new CRT monitor soon-ish, I say hooking up your Dreamcast to your CRT monitor is a damn fine solution.
The picture is the same, since it's the Dreamcast that outputs the VGA, not the box/adapter/cable.
I highly doubt there's any difference. A VGA box/adapter would be a very good choice if you plan to buy a new TV with VGA or DVI later, or want to use it with your CRT monitor.
Your current TV sounds like the perfect TV for Mega Drive / Genesis though if you were to buy a RGB-SCART cable and a RGB-to-Component transcoder/converter.
- From my (limited) experience with Y'PbPr component video, it's possible that some modern TVs do not accept the MD/G's 240p via component in (or anything below 480p acually).
I've given up to find a TV that's capable of doing everything I want the way I expect. In the end the only good solution seems to be to keep your old CRT TV for retro gaming and a modern HDTV for Dreamcast, Wii, 360, PS3.
The Mega Drive was far inferior to the NES in terms of diffusion rate and sales in the Japanese market, though there were ardent Sega users. But in the US and Europe, we knew Sega could challenge Nintendo. We aimed at dominating those markets, hiring experienced staff for our overseas department in Japan, and revitalising Sega of America and the ailing Virgin group in Europe.
Then we set about developing killer games.
