Anyway, I like playing PSX games on my PSP because it's a hassle to dig out/hook-up my PSX (only have Genesis/CD, Saturn, & DC hooked up to my tv), and plus it's just really nice having a portable PSX.

And also your other comment, about how you don't want to modify any console to do anything other than it was intended to do... technically speaking, the PSP was designed to play PSX games, Sony just decided to completely ignore this feature and only release a handful of the most well-known games. I think it basically makes the PSP worth playing, getting custom firmware on the thing. Mine went literally untouched for about two months 'til I figured out how to rip/convert all of my fave PSX games for portable play.
Totally! The PSP is the best portable PSX ever.

I got into making EBOOTs before CDDA support was added. I wrote my own python script so that I could dump and EBOOT-ize my PSX discs in linux. I was one of the people that worked out how to make the CDDA work with the PSX EBOOTs... one of my better contributions to the PSP scene. If you want to check it out, just pop over to MaxConsole and look for PopSX (what I called my python script). It's a little dated now as it doesn't support D_A's new multi-disc EBOOT format. I'll get around to updating it some day.

Well it's just awesome to have a portable PSX, is all. I could never be bothered to finish Final Fantasy VII until I could play it between classes/during breaks at work.

I also felt like you were asserting that custom firmware = piracy. Which might be true in some cases, but I was just trying to explain that you can have physical copies AND digital back-ups, and that is completely above board.

Also, perhaps I'm nit-picking here, but you said you don't care for emulated games but own both the Capcom and Sega Genesis collections for your PSP... aren't those games running off an emulator as well?

Chilly Willy: I agree with you on the PSP = best portable PSX! I also must thank you to your contributions to the scene. I can say, without hyperbole, that without Custom Firmware my PSP would have amounted to little more than an extremely expensive paperweight with some media functions that I already have other devices for.

    1. I hardly ever take my PSP or DS out of the house, so I want to play an older game, I'll just play it on the console.

    2. I could care less about whether it's legal or not. If I wanted to download emulated games, I'd do it, just as I would Metallica's MP3's. And not once did I mention the legality of emulated games. I think you guys are reading between the lines a little too much.

I don't know, nor do I care. But that Capcom collection sure looks nice lined up on my shelf with my other games.

My god, this is the most ridiculous and infuriating debate I've ever been involved in. I don't like meat pizza either - how about you guys try to stick me under the light for that one, too.

Wait wait wait... does that include pepperoni? How about salami (a pizza rarity in Southern California)? Are you KIDDING ME?!

It's cool, man. I personally just don't see the value in owning a PSP if you aren't going to unlock it. Hell, even if you're just playing PSP games, running them off the memstik gets rid of the horrific load times that render most of its library (imo) unplayable.

And if you've never had Pepperoni and Jalapeno pizza, you just haven't lived, my friend.

That sounds interesting. I like to throw peppercini's on my pizza, but I've never tried jalapeno's on one. Sounds like an upcoming adventure

It's my (delicious) kryptonite! You just have to be careful about eating too much... all that oil + spicyness can make for quite an uncomfortable trip to the bathroom the next morning, if you overdo it

Pepperoni and jalapeno's? I'm getting heartburn just thinking about it!

Actually, one of my kinds of pizza is BBQ chicken. I can also do Canadian bacon, but stuff like linguica (sp?), pepperoni, sausage and . . . uh, salami (salami on pizza? Really?) I can only do those in small amounts.

Whaaaaaat?! I'm Portuguese, and linguica is like sausage of the heavens to us And Northern California has by far the best makers in the country. If I could give -1 rep right now, I totally would.

Just a quick check to make sure linguica's what I think it is:

It's the little mini pepperonis on pizza that always curl up in the oven and look like little meat bowls, right?

Pretty much. In traditional dishes, the slices are much thicker, not resembling a pepperoni slice.

That's what I thought. How about this, then:

    linguica > pepperoni > sausage

Linguica's better because it's more bite-sized than pepperoni and, unlike sausage, doesn't seem to contain fennel.
