The original Ray Man on the PS1 got rave reviews, too.

I played it and was like "meh."

I didn't really give it too much of a chance, but I thought ubisoft's Rocket on the N64 was so much more immediatly gratifying. I loved that game then, and I love it now.

Forget the cookie cutter list of games everyone shows when mentioning the Dreamcast.

    I highly recommend the following:

Armada: It's like Asteroids, Sinistar and Star Control all wrapped in one unique RPG shooter.

Air Force Delta: I'd thought this game was much better than Ace Combat 2.

Super Magnetic Neo: A unique platform that uses the power of magnetism to advance you character through the levels.

Aerowings: Pilotwings with planes. (I've heard 2 is the better title, but I still haven't played my copy)

    D2: Resident Evil style thriller

Star Lancer (Also on PC): If you like Wing Commander or Colony Wars, you'll like Star Lancer.

A Black Falcon: no, computer games and video games are NOT the same thing. Video games are on consoles, computer games are on PC. The two kinds of games are different, and have significantly different design styles, distribution methods, and game genre selections. Computer gaming and console (video) gaming are NOT the same thing."

Star lancer is the other game I have that I couldn't think of. It's a pc port, right?

I really WANTED to like colony wars, as it was the closest game I could find on the PSX to StarFox 64, but it was just so damn hard! It was a technical achievement, as I recall, and I like psygnosis and all... But I sold it pretty quickly.

Airforce Delta Rocks. That game is intense on hard difficulty. Also the maps that you play on are very well made.

I just went to IGN and they didn't mention anything about it being a jaguar port. To be fair, though, they didn't mention much of anything other than it was a fairly clever 2D platformer on the PSX.

And the "rave reviews" I referred to was overstated a bit: they only gave it a 7.

You mentioned Graphical prowess, the PS2 can deliver. You're nitpicking if you use the time span argument.

I think you've forgotten the point of this particular discussion (or maybe I have, I'm having trouble remembering myself now) I'm pretty sure this section was pertaining to whether the Dreamcast competed graphically with the other consoles of the same generation to which I said that whilst the DC and PS2 were competing Dreamcast games looked better. Whether or not 5th year PS2 games look better is irrelevant as 5th year Dreamcast games could well have still looked comparable anyway given a similar timeframe for developers to learn how to utilise the technology to it's best.

It was, but it was ported to Playstation and Saturn fairly quickly.

As for DC vs. PS2... PS2 can push more polygons, but it is much worse than the DC when it comes to textures and aliasing. Early on, PS2 games looked inferior to Dreamcast games, but they improved with time while Dreamcast was dead. Even so, with all the extra years of development, there is only a scant handful of PS2 games in existence that you can really point to as being above and beyond Dreamcast games from 2000-2001.

This is what the comparison was like early on:

    Shenmue on DC (2000):

Shadow of Destiny on PS2 (2001):

You just can't handle my jawusumness responces.

I've only played the original Rayman on the PS1 and Saturn, and I found the Saturn version to be a lot smoother. Almost felt like it was designed for that console. Maybe the Jaguar version is the best though... That's just a console I've never been interested in owning.

Anyone played Evil Twin? I pretty much can't find any official reviews on it and the comments I find on the net seem to veer between saying it's bad and inconsistant to a pretty good game. It's made by the same person who made Rayman 2 I think.

I remember the game getting mediocre reviews in Next Gen magazine. Their reviews for some DC titles seemed a little too harsh at times though, especially when it was a shmup.

I noticed that as well. Not just for Next Gen Magazine but for many game sites. I think there was a Sega prejudice back then maybe because of the 32X / Saturn debacle or maybe because they were just pushing for Sony.
