    Default Japanese MD1

Good news. I got my Japanese MD1 in the mail today. I noticed though that it wont play my US carts because of some tab comes out from the side whenever i turn it on. how should i go bout getting rid of this little tab?

Edit: I fixed my little problem. I opened up the Japanese MD1 and on the top panel saw this plastic tab cut it off w/ some wire cutters and now I can play US games. it was all very simple as are no wires to worry about.

Sounds neat, post some pictures? I may be getting a Japanese-enabled US console, so I'm interested in the details of your Japanese one.

This is the cart locking mechanism, which I think is useless.

The blue reset button screams "I am cool" to me. The extra-large 16-BIT just screams.

IS power Instinct a good game? I may have to hunt one down.

Can you play all the US games with it, or only the pre-1993-ones? You know, before Sega sporadically introduced region lock-outs to some of its games...

There is no such MD which is all regions at the same time, you can only have 1 or 4 options at any given time.

I could play a little more than half my US games by my estimate. most of the older ones w/ old Genesis in gray w/ a few 3rd Party exceptions (Capcom & Konami) started right up, and most of the ones with Genesis in red were region locked except for VF2, Sonic & Knuckles(oddly enough it has a slot for the Cart lock on it), and Puggsy.

I Agree w/ TmEE about the Cart lock being useless. it's basically just there so you can't play games from other regions unless you cut it off.

anyways what are some good Import Games? heres what im going for so far: Alien Soldier, Dangerous Seed, Devil Hunter Yohko, Gleylancer, Golden Axe III, Panorama Cotton, Super Fantasy Zone, Twinkle Tale.

and in case your wondering why i didnt list MW4 (already bought it), Pulseman (bought from Bratwurst), Langrisser and Mega Man: The Wily Wars (plans on buying these from Bratwurst)

and nathanallan I can post pics if you want, but its really very simple. just slide the power button over and you'll see a little plastic rod move, just cut off enough of it so it doesn't enter the cart slot and the cart lock is gone.

Yes they do look good and I got mine at a good price $40 (15$ for MD1, 25$ for shipping, can't complain about shipping price since it only took 4 days to get here from Japan). All the other MD1s I had seen would've cost me twice as much, and most of the boxed ones were triple that (note these estimates include reg price & Shipping)

HOLY #$%@! You managed to get Monster World IV with your MegaDrive?! How much did you dish out on the package(if Monster World IV came with your MegaDrive)? I saw Monster World IV alone being sold for 350 BUCKS in a game shop in my area!!!

I love the look of the Japanese MegaDrive, with that big golden 16-BIT molding on the case. Though I think Sega could have also put on a big MegaDrive logo where it says "Sega Genesis" on a US Genesis 1. Without a big logo behind the 16-BIT molding, I think it looks kinda bland. But then, again, I'm more used to seeing a Genesis 1 that an original-model Japanese MegaDrive, so that's just me.

I've only ever seen one ONCE for sale locally (I live in Canada) and it was $60 in the box. I really had to think about that one... I mean I almost bought it! Even at $60 in the box considering its something so rare around here isn't too bad so $40 seems like a good deal! Its the shipping from Japan that makes the difference on alot of stuff on EBAY I've looked at like Famicoms and Super Famicoms. They are usually only $30 for the system but $45 for shipping to Canada.

Actually I bought MW4 complete from Mad Gear Import Video Games on Ebay for 50$, they also have a cart only copy for 25$.

You can Also order a reproduction copy from Bratwurst here on SEGA-16 which you can play on Genesis Systems without a converter and the text is in English.

I feel your pain. I've seen some consoles sold in Japan on eBay where the shipping cost 100 BUCKS! While I've never bought a Japanese console from eBay, I can tell that 100 bucks to ship a system is absurd.
The only Japanese console I've ever seen in my area of Canada(Montreal) was a Super Famicom(original model) with a SuperCom Pro. 1 copier unit. And I bought it.
