I liked Golden Axe until the later levels. The amount of enemies made it frustrating to play because they constantly gang up on you, not giving you much of a chance to attack. I could use magic, but I'd rather save it up for a boss battle.
Don't get me wrong, I liked the game, but I'm not going to say someone has "poor taste", just because they don't like one game considered a Genesis classic. I don't think it's a Genesis classic, but I don't think it's bad, either. So sue me for not putting this game on a pedestal.
GA is definitely one of the better Genesis games I've played. It's probably my favorite beat em up. Keep in mind I've never played any SoR. Tyris is one of the original video game babes.

Sh!t I agree with Baloo GA 1&2 haven't really aged that well but Revenge of Death Adder is much better and hold up even to this day. Some of you guys look at sh!t through stain colored glasses. GA is more fun than say Altered Beast but but it isn't a game that even think about playing on a daily basis.
I can totally see how someone could not enjoy an arcade-style game like Golden Axe. If I'd never played it before and tried it today and the theme didn't appeal to me I might not like it either and it is repetitive. But it'll always be a classic for me and I even love the PCE version (mostly for everything but the in-game graphics and sfx).![]()
Yeah, it's a weird kind of fun, I suppose . . .
I absolutely loved the original arcade way back when, and this was one of the first games I rented when I got my Genesis. I was surprised to find that the game was kind of boring - I don't know if that says something about the quality of the port or just the fact that I was playing a multiplayer-focused arcade game by myself.
I was brought up on the Master System version and always thought that was excellent. The Mega Drive version is even better with more levels, enemies and characters. Excellent game and the best in the series.
