True - calling the SNES "just an RPG console" is like calling the Genesis "just a sports console."

And I was only aware that Resident Evil 2 was ported to the N64. You sure about RE1 & Nemesis?

Even though I have some freaky ass opinions on games, atleast I try hard to cover my ass in an argument and don't do the fanboy thing of, "This port on my console of choice is so much better then yours." I Also stay by my opinions, and the reason I think of the SNES as an RPG machine is because whenever I talk to someone about it, all they want to talk about is Final Fantasy 3, chrono trigger, and Earthbound. YES I KNOW THAT THEY ARE GOOD, but i'm tired of hearing about them. Also for some reason, I don't know why, but I ussually don't think of 1st party nintendo SNES games. When you say Contra III all I think of is the NES contras. Super Punch out makes me think of Mike Tyson's Punch out. I think this is where I get my theory of NES and n64 rocked and everything else was meh. It's just that anyone who you talk to when you say "NES or "N64" they'll always say, " Oh, I remember this or that", or "That Sucked" but even if it's negative atleast it's not an RPG discussion. Like Metal Sonic said, each discussion about the gaming industry, I state my same damn opinions and then we have the same exact argument, like clockwork. It never fails, I say N64 is good and then Rusty starts it off with an "O RLY" type of comment then it snowballs off topic like right now.

The Genesis and SNES were the two greatest gaming consoles ever made, bar none. That competition just FORCED Sega and Nintendo to put use their creative resources to the max and it made for a great time in video games. Everything about that era rocked. The playground rivalry, the awesome games, the fact that both sides kept stepping it up.

Since the beginning of the 32bit era until now, no time (well at least for me) has been as great for gaming. No time has been as exciting either. If I had to get rid of all my consoles and could only have one, I would keep the Genesis. Given my $$ situation and complete lack of space that will probably happen soon. But I will ALWAYS keep collecting Genesis games and always will keep my genny.

If I was a SNES kid, then I'd prolly say the same thing about it.

I like the Wii. Much more than 360 or PS3.

Games never were about the latest technology. Both NES and SNES were not state of the art but great gaming consoles.
The Mega Drive was far inferior to the NES in terms of diffusion rate and sales in the Japanese market, though there were ardent Sega users. But in the US and Europe, we knew Sega could challenge Nintendo. We aimed at dominating those markets, hiring experienced staff for our overseas department in Japan, and revitalising Sega of America and the ailing Virgin group in Europe.

Then we set about developing killer games.

I agree completely. The Console Wars were fierce (and maybe a bit bloody) but they were fun. Saturday mornings watching mudslinging commercials where kids in flanel shirts said you were a "total loser" if you weren't playing Genesis as Paul Rudd played SNES. It was a pushing and shoving match behind the gym in elementary school; both parties were more or less equally-matched, and the whole thing was pretty and no one really got hurt.

Then the 32-bit era began, the Playstation entered the fray, and somehow it stopped being fun anymore.

Och, Nintendo has a long "family friendly" policy of screwing you over for your money, so there's nothing new about that...

The funny thing about an oxymoron is, even if you remove the ox, there'll always be a moron. The Question Remains: Y?

I'm just happy "Turtles in Time" was mentioned.

Agreed. Also look at Game Boy. Kind of pathetic, monochrome dot matrix unlit screen... but everyone bought one.

I like the Wii myself. I think a lot of people are far too dismissive of its games for no good reason. No one said anything bad about Sam & Max on PC, but now that it's on Wii, it's automatically considered shovelware. Or it's not "hardcore" enough all of a sudden. Or we can just pretend it doesn't exist. Or now we'll say it's a game best suited to senior citizens. Funny, it sure never used to be. Shikigami II for Dreamcast and Gamecube was totally hardcore omg. Shikigami III is considered a disgrace because it's on Wii. Seriously, the import Dreamcast game got more attention and praise. And no, it's not because Shikigami III isn't as good.

It really gets me when people say the Wii isn't for people who have been gaming for a long time, and the 360 is. I mean, what? Almost everything on 360 is modern. They're all FPS, racing sims, Tom Clancy games, and all sorts of GTA wannabes. I see no adventure games on 360. No light gun games. Not even any real puzzle games outside of XBLA. No 2D platformers. No real shooters. No pinball games. The Wii has all of these genres covered, at least a little. Order Up is basically a more complicated version of Tapper; Kororinpa is Marble Madness on steroids. How many 360 games feature "classic" gameplay at all?

I'm not saying 360 sucks or anything. I understand well that the 360 is much better suited to certain tastes. But I just don't get the comments out there that 360 has in any way a "broader" selection, or that the Wii has "nothing".

Well, then let me say it just so we got that covered. =P

I understand well that the 360 is much better suited to certain tastes.
I remember that Nintendo did do a public research one or two years before Wii came out. They asked in every single forum on the planet if the hardcore gamers really do prefer "FPS, racing sims, Tom Clancy games, and all sorts of GTA wannabes" or arcade games... So, while PS3 and 360 got stuck with these genres, Nintendo got back to their roots.

Why don't they invent a constant learning and difficulty curve for their games instead, gamers are lazy enough as it is. It's like going from buying made Swedish pancake mixture to buying made pancakes.

I've managed to beat Undeadline and I would rather play Shadow of the Beast until death before buying shit like this.

I am not sure I understand what you mean. I certainly won't play Shadow of the Beast before any decent PS3/360 nor Wii game. Now, Undeadline... that's a different story.

I'd rather play a hard game and fail than let the game skip the parts I can't handle... Sort of.
