Though it's only been out a few years, Nintendo's latest handheld has already developed quite an amazing library of games. One genre that has yet to be represented, however, is Real Time Strategy.

Tecmo and developer Vogster recently released Robocalypse, an ambitious (albeit watered-down) design that, while certainly fun in its own right, merely whets one's appetite for such games rather than satisfies it.

Given that the DS's stylus simulates the mouse so much more eloquently than the analog sticks on a console controller, I can't imagine why developers have yet to exploit the system's strengths to produce more RTS titles. While Robocalypse utilizes large character sprites to compensate for the tiny DS screen, I would gladly sacrifice character detail if it meant that there could be MORE of them (which could be selected by circling groups or tapping individual units on the touch screen).

Gamers have long been lamenting how poorly the genre has been represented on non-PC systems, but IMO the DS (and the Wii, for that matter) is a thus far untapped resource that could give the fans the games they want and deserve.

Anyone disagree?
