    Sega Saturn Rarity Guide

New rarity guide from Sega of America Forums.

Due to the huge popularity of our Sega Genesis Rarity Guide and all of the positive feedback, we have now published a Sega Saturn Rarity List and Price Guide.

    Hope you find it useful.

Is that guide an NTSC list? From Official Sega forums?

And it's missing the rarest NTSC Saturn release....

I have a bunch of those in the top 20. Didn't know so many of them were rare. I guess if I lose my job I have a fall back plan!

I wonder about that site. For example, Link's Awakening is 71%, not that far from being under super rare.

do they post HOW they determine rarity? I bet its based on number of copies listed on eBay/Amazon/Half.com at any given time, rather than actual production numbers. Sometimes a game can be so worthless and crappy that people just don't feel like listing it because its not worth the effort.

I was wondering something on these lines myself.

On what scale is a game's "rarity" rated? Is it compared to only the other games on that console, or is it compared to all video games? (classic, anyway)

I only ask because even the most common Saturn is rare by my standards . . . I've never seen one outside of captivity.

Our PAL buyers guide was based on the frequency at which titles are available now and average prices:

Not much use to our American chums but we've found it useful

The only Saturn game I've ever seen was Mega Man 8 . . . and it most certainly did bite.

I'll say it now, I don't like guides based off of ebay and amazon only, I know that games go for far more than they do anywhere else. I got to have something that gives me a price of what to pay for something if I found it from another collector or in the wild at a game store or a small online store.

Yeah, this site seems a bit out of touch. The first Mega Man for the Gameboy was one of the rarest games for the system and is worth nearly $90 loose? I see that game around all the time, and it isn't going for $90. Same with Metroid II, which was the fifth rarest, apparently.

Ah, this was made with me in mind. I own all the Working Designs Saturn games, so I value my Saturn collection very highly.

Funny, Burning Rangers seems to be the most valuable one I own.

I don't think Magic Knight Rayearth is worth nearly as much as it should be, seeing as it was a limited run, and it was the very last US Saturn game.

Even Dragon Force is worth more(which it deserves to be, being the best strategy game ever).

I have found, in the UK at least, that the vast majority of collectors list games for sale according to eBay prices anyway! perhaps a couple of quid lower to be competitive.

Games stores here are either more expensive than eBay (Gamestation, Chips) or get their prices from eBay in the first place (Cash Converters, Entertainment Exchange)

Again most small online stores (Consolegoods.co.uk, consolepassion.co.uk, retro-games.net) you will find are a little more expensive than eBay again.

Our PAL guide was based on completed auction prices excluding buy it now and store listings, so it's the prices the public are actually bidding for items.

Of course none of this may hold true in the US, but here in merry old England eBay is almost always the cheapest option, unless you are lucky enough to find items in charity shops or at car boot sales, and it's been at least 5 years since I've seen any Saturn stuff out in the wild.

If I could get $240 for Panzer Dragoon Saga, I'd seriously consider selling it.
