Nope you don't need to do anything to play backups. Just burn and play.

Never figured out how to create backups myself. I found it wayyyy easy just to download the .ISO and mess with the audio files and burn it to a disc.

The only sort of 'backups' I've ever gotten working are BIN+CUE ones.

How exactly do you work with the ISO+MP3 ones?

You have to create a cue file.

If I remember correctly, Nero 6 or better had an ISO+MP3 compilation project that would handle writing such a thing without needing to make the CUE file by hand. It's been so long since I used Nero in Windows (or Windows at all), I don't remember precisely.

I don't have any backups, but I have a bunch of illegal copies of games I don't own. They are not back-ups since I don't have the original.

Given how old these games are, and given that I never paid more than $5 for any of the ones I have, I don't think anyone will condemn you on that.

    Let me rephrase my question.

Every time I have burnt my ISO+MP3 with a CUE file, it ends up burning a music CD instead.

don't let Mr. Matthews read that, he'll tell you how he likes to own real copies and isn't interested in custom firmware for no relevant reason.
