    Blinky For the Older Gamers

What was your best and favorite era of Video game Playing....? I will break it down is some categories.

    Pre 8-Bit Systems(Atari, Intelivision..)

    8-Bit (mid 80's-90's)

    16-bit (90's - mid 90's)

    N64/PSX/Saturn - Days (mid 90's to late)

Dreamcast (giving its own time frame because it had one)

    PS2/Xbox/GC (Early 2000's)

    PS3/360/Wii (Present)

If I were to pick it would be close choice between 16-bit and Dreamcast.

I think Dreamcast days for me were my best gaming times. I just remember enjoying the games and the added crisp graphics were a Plus

The 16-bit era was the best all around, but my favorite console is the Dreamcast.

I'm assuming this is referring solely to time period i.e. NES was still around until 93, so it would be included in the 16-bit era even though it was an 8-bit system left over from the mid/late 80's. While this excludes my favorite game ever, Mega Man 2, it encompasses the greatest sum of my favorite games. about 75% of what I play (if not more) was made between 90 and 96.

1980's all the way, I miss being open mouthed and astonished at what a computer can do games wise.

The '90's were more a slow progression where you were eased into everything so nothing was quite as exciting anymore.

Nowadays 'generic' is no longer a dirty word, and 'innovative' is reserved for a console the 'l33t' gamers shun, while they sit wowed my mediocre high definition bullshit pushing lethargically engineered scenes with 8 or 9 figure polygon budgets, through expensive underexploited hardware.

Time machine you say? first in fucking line.

Late eighties/early nineties for me. My Golden Age is when the NES, Genesis, SNES, and original Gameboy walked the earth.

16-bit, I know I am only 16, but think about it this way, I never got a 'new' console until 2001, and that was a 64. I admit it bias's me a bit, but it also helps me realise that the 16-bit era is indeed great. The 64 just didn't hook me, neither did the PS2 (Until I got Final Fantasy X).

The 16-bit and 32/64 bit era, are hard for me to choose between b/c I have so many fond memories of playing those game with family and friends.

Today it's different, it's focus is online game play, where we can here little Johnny make racial and homophobic remarks then beg his mom to make him a grilled cheese sandwich. I've had lots of fun playing games that come out now, it's just MP can make things a drag sometimes. I liked it when things were simple.

In my opinion, it's Amiga games, Sega Genesis games, then Atari 400/800 games. I still play all of those via emulation, or on the actual hardware (still have my SEGA Genesis/CD/32X setup and running).

It's really hard to say. I used to think the period of the NES and Genesis, probably my two favorite systems, but a lot of those later Genesis games I didn't like, the whole 32X/Sega CD period left a bad taste in my mouth. I loved that era though, what I think of as the GameFan years -- my favorite magazine -- so I'd say 1987-1992. Those five years. But then I was just watching SAGAIA2's Space Harrier video and thinking, "did that come out in 85?" And I check KLOV and sure enough, 1985. Damn! So it's really hard to say. All periods have their ups and downs. The early classic gaming era was great. That's when high scores meant something. I think there was a precision of play that was truly different then than has been experienced since. But the PlayStation era was pretty great as well. It's hard to argue with the likes of Metal Gear Solid, Resident Evil, Final Fantasy VII, and a personal favorite of mine, King's Field.

For me its a tie between the 8-Bit and 16-Bit.
