    Default 32x Cables

Yo. Still have some trouble with my homemade 32x hookups.

When i try to play Doom32, the menus are fine, but the game itself is out of sync.

Overall the screen is a bit to red and dark.

The screen flickers a bit, black horisontal lines, not much though, but every now and then theres some lines here and there.

Original 16bits games works fine, except the lines and the red thing.

I've buzzed the cords with a multimeter and everything seems fine.

    Any ideas?

Have you tried putting an electrolythic cap on the sync line that goes to 32X ? I had to do it, otherwise my 32X acted up a little (though I was using my own built sync signal instead of stock sync signal). 220µF cap did the trick.... you may try having a less than 100ohm resistor in series aswell.

Dont know if i have any electrolythic capacitors, might be able to salvage one from something i have laying around.

you may try having a less than 100ohm resistor in series aswell.
What dya mean by that? just one less then 100ohm resistor?

Hmm, just realized that this diagram:

    http://members.optusnet.com.au/evilt...cart.htm#mega2

says that there should be some caps on the RGB lines. But that can be the problem with my sync right? :S

EDIT: This is how i've hooked evertthing up

Should sync be hooked up there somewhere? Pin 5 from genesis 2?

    Speaking of building these cables...

The Hyperkin rep at the Digital Press forums is interested in making a fresh batch, plus the adaptor for the model 1 Genesis. I've sent him a pin diagram I found on this forum showing how to wire up the adaptor plug. He said the minimum order his overseas company can make is 5000 but they'd be relatively cheap. He's not sure yet if he'll order them.

However, what concerns me are the round bits on each cable. If those are important components, he needs to be told exactly what they are so they can be installed.

His username on DP forums is tofu should anyone want to send him a private message concerning this.

Hmm, think I've fried something my gen will only display black and white
I've tested the cables with another SMD1, and they work as they should. what have I done? :cry

EDIT: Phew, was just the coord that was a bit messy. so NVM :P

EDIT2: If i plug my homemade SMD1->32x Cable, and the RF cable from the 32x, it should work right? 'cause now its just black and white. I guess that theres something wrong with my SMD1->32x Cable after all. Sigh, I thought that that one was working atleast.

Tried with the 220uf cap, didnt do anything. STill get this picture:

Regular 16bit games work perfecyly though, wierd imo

EDIT: big fat picture replaced with resized one.

If Stantard 16bit games, can the SMD->32x cable be fucked up? Or does that mean that that one is working atleast?

I don't know a whole lot about this, but the 32x mixing cable only comes into play for 32x games, and only for the sprite (or 3D) layer of the video. (I cant remember if the added sound channels are mixed through the cable as well)

If you don't plug the cable in at all you'll still get part of the picture (usually).
In the case of DOOM, the status bar will display fine w/out the cable, but the main screen will be blank. (black)

SO it would seem you're mixing cable isn't working right.

you have bad sync there.... this means mixing cable is having some issues.

EDIT: What about the sound? Do i really have to take it from the stereo out on the md1? I've read somewhere that the audio is transfered to the 32x via some of the cartridge pins?

all 32X sound goes to MD for mixing with MD (and MCD) sound through cart port... in 32X, the sound from AV in goes straight to AV out.

He's sent the proper wiring diagrams off to his overseas factory. It'll be up to them to build it, if possible. If they can make working cables, he can order them for sale.

Tried both with a 52ish ohm resistor, didnt work. And the capacitor didnt work either.

And I bought a RGB cable from ebay. So no more hassle with that one. THinking of buying a 32x cable aswell, its "only" $10ish. Considering the amount of time i've spent trying to do this myself, thats a bargain ;P

But I don't want to give up just yet. Feels like im close xP

I get some interference when playing 16bit games aswell, the black lines i talked about. But the coords buzz out alright (I think, im a noob). Could the lenght of the cable be the problem? CAT5 cable might not be optimal :P

Some of you guys have made neptunes. Have you had any problems like me? With the sync failing big time?

Well, Back to the garage. Gonna try a bigger resistor.
