SOR 2 had a baseball field that you went under to fight bad guys.
SOR 3 had a cloned Axle and a boxing kangaroo.
No comparison, SOR 2 is much better! Although I do agree, beat-em-ups can get repetitive. Any ideas on how to fix repetitiveness int these games?
My thoughts exactly. The bass in stage 6's track is just incredible. And it sounds impressively smooth for such an old sound chip.
Play it with somebody else in co-op. Getting in each others way and then 'accidentally' hitting the other guy never ceases to be fun.
Streets of Rage II is the best beat-em-up ever made in my opinion. It is better than River City Ransom and that is saying a lot.
The only thing that annoyed me about II is that it took out the teamwork moves and yes, the combos are a little slower but the graphics were overhauled, it had new diverse characters, more interesting levels and is nowhere near as clunky and cheap as the first one. The soundtrack is also amazing.
3 put in some features that should have been in II but then it went and messed up a whole bunch of other things that have been gone over constantly.
You know what I think is overrated? Final Fight. I see it listed as the "best" beat-em-up ever a lot and I don't think it could hold a candle or even a match to SRII.
SoR1's gameplay is too basic and the levels are repetitive as hell. The music is undeniably great though.
SoR3 is a chore to play despite the enhanced gameplay over SoR2, because the enemies take so little damage requiring you to hammer them over and over. Also, the sound of the hits lacks the satisfying "oomph" that SoR2 has. Plus, Axel is a lumbering hoss, and Zan is a HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE replacement for Max. Skate still sucks and Blaze.......well she's hotter than ever.
SoR2 is JUST right, thank you. It's up there with "Final Fight" as the Top 5 best beat-em-ups ever. Beat-em-ups that have a good balance of everything (graphics, sound, gameplay, variety)
Did I say I hate Final Fight? I love Final Fight, I just think SRII is much better.
I do need to apologise for my hyperbole though.
"Final Fight" has a right to exist on the grounds that it led to the creation of the SOR series.
It, however, contains many enemies/bosses that are cheap...which shows its arcade (quarter munching) roots. I also hate how every level there is that part where the computer takes over and moves your character to the next scene.
SOR2 is a better game with tighter control and more reasonable (and variable) difficulty.
I hated the bosses in FF. Lets jump around, roll, jump, roll get a few cheap shots in...jump away..
And yes that auto walking used to drive me nuts for some reason..I almost forgot about that...thanks for the bad memories..![]()
The auto-walking is simply progressing to the next part of the level. It happens in almost every level of SoR2.
Thank Raul that is just your opinion TheEdge, because I love Streets of Rage II.
And no, no, no, no, no way Final Fight is overrated. It's just an arcade quarter-muncher, that's all.

"You could have a bumper car, bumping.
This amusement never ends..."
SOR2 combo system is extremely slow and it looks like the game mechanics are broken or weren't developed enough.
I caught myself jabbing once and then doing the uppercut because I wasn't able to sit through the slow ass combos. Bottomline its my least favorite and its almost unplayable.
I like the levels but the mechanics suck. I can't be a total cheapass like in the first one.
