Most shmups have a great soundtrack. Definitely all of the good ones, except maybe Eliminate Down, which is okay but not great.
The Mega Drive was far inferior to the NES in terms of diffusion rate and sales in the Japanese market, though there were ardent Sega users. But in the US and Europe, we knew Sega could challenge Nintendo. We aimed at dominating those markets, hiring experienced staff for our overseas department in Japan, and revitalising Sega of America and the ailing Virgin group in Europe.
Then we set about developing killer games.

Castlevania Bloodlines has a soundtrack that is just godly. I mean, my God, that music is so atmospheric and beautiful. Forgotten Worlds and Strider both have music that is deciliously old-school. Streets of Rage 2 has a great soundtrack. Surprisingly, Midnight Resistance has a crackin' soundtrack as well.
Other honorable mentions:
Sonic the Hedgehog
Marko
Aladdin
Sol Deace
Rocket Knight Adventures
Sparkster
Many more I can't remember right now.
I personally am a big fan of Outrun 2019. That music is catchy as hell.

Step on Beat from Outrun is great, and really should have been redone like all the other tracks in Outrun 2.
Am I the only one that thinks Revenge of shinobi has a horrible treble problem? It sounds as if you were listening to the songs through a brick wall!!
My votes for great Genny soundtracks, "Get Ready" this is gonna be a long list.

The Adventures of Batman & Robin is not only the best soundtrack on the Genesis, but of any 16 bit console.Gauntlet IV also had an amazing soundtrack.
Less talk more action!
Batman & Robin? You really think so? The instrumentation is OK if you like techno I suppose, but the instrument set is rather weak (no punch, very tinny) and it is extremely repetitive from what I recall. I liked Jesper Kyd's work on Scorcher for the Saturn.
Devil Crash is another game with great music that hasn`t been mentioned yet, Technosoft have always been known for quality music, especially on the Mega Drive so it comes as no surprise that Technosoft have taken Naxat's Devil Crash from the PC Engine and made it in to something better. Now PC Engine fan boys will argue until they're blue in the face that the PC Engine version is superior. This is incorrect in all areas, I've played both versions extensively and can say for sure that graphically, sonically and playability wise the Mega Drive version wins hands down.
