A couple of years later Mega Drive developer TechnoSoft was bored and they figured that converting Devil Crash (as it was called in Japan) would keep them busy until the new season of Beverly Hills 90210 came on the tube.
This has to be the best line in gaming journalism I have ever read!!!

The game has the best instrumentation of any game on the Genesis.Listen to Dark Studio, or Big Boss. The only game that comes close to having sounds that complex is SoR3.

    Less talk more action!

The Mega Drive was far inferior to the NES in terms of diffusion rate and sales in the Japanese market, though there were ardent Sega users. But in the US and Europe, we knew Sega could challenge Nintendo. We aimed at dominating those markets, hiring experienced staff for our overseas department in Japan, and revitalising Sega of America and the ailing Virgin group in Europe.

Then we set about developing killer games.

There are so many great genesis games with great music and even more single great songs but Im surprised nobody mentioned:

Galaxy Force II - Not a great port but amazing music from front to back.

I would post a video but I cant choose a favorite.

Aladdin has some good compositions (Disney arrangements), but is stuck with GEMS's rather poor default instrument set. (Vectorman and Vectorman 2 probably used it best -Earthworm Jim/2 used it with a custom instrument set) The PCM playback on most Gems games was decent at least.

Vaportrail has the strongest percussion (on top of good music) of any Genesis game I've heard, it actually reminds me of Tiido's sound engine. (sounds like it mixes 2 PCM channels too like Tiido's)

^ That's the arcade version. The Genny version sounds pretty close tho.

    ah well
You can download the vgm versions of the songs and play them through winamp. I dont know how they sound but it seems all of the genesis/md versions are no longer on youtube.

As christuserloeser said, they are pretty close to the arcade versions.

I just found this - The quality on most of these videos suck but it's still pretty great

Star Cruiser is one of the best sounding games I've ever heard on any system. I was crushed to learn it never left Japan.

No, it's unbiased analysis. The only fanboyism is people who claim that Hyperstone Heist and Bloodlines are actually as good as their SNES counterparts.
