see http://www.sega-16.com/forum/showthread.php?p=345858 which includes the game's soundtrack and arranged rock tracks from the original limited editon bonus CD that came with the European version of the game
The Mega Drive was far inferior to the NES in terms of diffusion rate and sales in the Japanese market, though there were ardent Sega users. But in the US and Europe, we knew Sega could challenge Nintendo. We aimed at dominating those markets, hiring experienced staff for our overseas department in Japan, and revitalising Sega of America and the ailing Virgin group in Europe.
Then we set about developing killer games.

This game is very hard.
I can't see myself beating it.
I wouldn't say it's crap.
I guess memorization of the levels is big part of the game play.
Comix Zone isn't all that, but it is a very nice effort. A 2d, 32 bit sequel would have been epic. I personally don't like the music at all, but the graphics are very nice. The Gameplay is a fresh take on the Beatem up genre, but the cheap difficulty is a turnoff. Comix Zone is on my list of games that I can't enjoy without an invincibility cheat code.
Another complaint I have with the game is the time it takes to kill the enemy's. I would appreciate enemy's that die a little quicker(perhaps just more of them), or put up more of a fight. Seems like you have to beat on a single enemy forever before he dies and you can progress in the game.

I don't play old stuff for nostalgia, I play old stuff because the games are better.

Enemy's can be killed really fast, they are just really smart. They fight back more like characters in a fighting game than a beat'em up. That's part of what makes Comix Zone awesome.
@Sega Genesis
The game can be many things, but bad looking isn't one of them. Great use of color, animation and special effects put into an incredibly original presentation.
Is the Japanese version easier than the US game.
Less talk more action!
This is easily one of my favorite Genesis games ever. Great graphics, music, gameplay and it's very engaging. I'm not even a comic book reader. I too find it can be a bit unforgiving at times, but it's like an arcade game, where memorization and skill can overcome the game's challenges.
Well judging from the vid, the Jp version looks different. Can anyone confirm?
Less talk more action!
I just dicked around with the JP ROM and here's what I noticed:
(1) - Only 1 official life but starting a new game will return you to the previous stage. What I did in both versions was die before reaching the first boss, which in the US means commencing a new game from the opening panel with the knife, dynamite, and health where the chick's talking to you; in the JP version I recommenced from that steel door one has to beat down which leads to a chamber with the first appearance of those strange nests that descend from the ceiling, a fight with one of those Strigil characters, and the 2 fans on the right.
No clue whether there's a limit how many times the game can be continued thus.
(2) - Enemies defend themselves worse, one simply lands more hits.
(3) - I didn't notice any objects that deal zero dmg but overall I seemed to take a bit less from them; perhaps metal fixtures are toned down (that steel door would be a good place to test) but it felt the wooden crates and metal barrels inflict the same amount.
Good to see some Comix Zone love. Obviously one of my favorite Genesis titles, and one of the top video games of all time, period (in my top 20, to be sure).
