Sure thing man. Each to his own. It is the low production runs that often makes a game collectable and the relative lack of 16Bit Success for Sega in Japan ensured quite a few titles fit that criteria (especially The Ooze that you mentioned is relatively worthless in Japan.) Some people just can't resist the subtle box art of Japanese titles. However almost all of our Mega Drive range are perfectly playable without Japanese skills as our team can vouch! But collecting to this degree isn't for everyone...

You should see how much Batman Forever goes for in Japan. Yes, the crappy Acclaim game. OUCH! The games goes for about $2 over here, but I've seen it upwards of $300 in Japan because it is so rare.

Sheesh... maybe I should sell mine in Japan then.

Unfortunately only the Japanese version of Batman can reach such highs in Japan.... Though if you found a sympathetic back street dealer, they may give you 1,000 Yen for it...

I am not a big fan of imported games (Mainly because they consist as just a bunch of turn-based RPG's (Except for Zero Wing and Alien Soldier)). These two games might be pretty good.

Zero Wing is mediocre. The PAL version is the only one worth having thanks to the infamous engrish, there's no point in getting the Japanese one.

I like Zero Wing. Great music! The Japanese version is the one I rented and that is the one I own. CHEAP!

I was shocked how much attention Zero Wing got on the net. Maybe the marketing executives put it in to stir up publicity... But having lived in Japan, I doubt it. Alien Soldier is a cracker, but I've always wondered why they did away with anything other than bosses? Was it a parting present to the Mega Drive masses or was the project hurried along before the system's demise...? I guess we'll never know. I really wish we could rent Japanese games in the UK...

Well the store I rented Japanese Megadrive games (as well as Japanese games for other systems) was the GameFan of game stores (ie: suited to hardcore gamers). Unfortunately the owners got a divorce from each other and the store went away, pissing me off in the process. Ah how I remember renting Castlevania IV before it came out in the US. I knew right then and there it would be the best game ever made for the Super Nintendo... and it was!

Shame you didn't have a few over due rentals when they decided to call it a day. I wonder who got custody of Pengo and if the Snow Bros. were split up too?

If you know Treasure you know it's not strange for them to make a game entirely composed of bosses because it's exactly something that they'd do.

They shaved the Japanese game cartridges down so they would fit into the US Genesis cartridge slots. They didn't rent the games out with the real boxes so they would have been loose with the manual. I have a Curse that was filed down not for rental, but they did that with ALL Mega Drive games they sold at first. Fortunately I got it for about $5 complete (but shaved). I am still trying to replace just the cartridge for Curse but I lost an auction which had it because I didn't want to spend more than $5.

Ah, yes the Treasure of now. But wasn't that the first time they had gone quite so hardcore featuring boss after boss after boss?
Those were the days when you could innocently shave down a Genesis cart without thinking about the fall in collectability value! Curse isn't really a top bracket title in Japan from what we can gather, but it does weigh in for more than $5 unfortunately, at least with box. I'll tell our buyer to keep an eye out for a 500 Yen loose one though: it should be common enough! Unshaven we take it...

Yeah loose is good. Unshaven definitely, but I don't want one with a full beard either. OK bad joke. Really bad.

    Sure thing man.
If you are ordering anything again in the future let me see what mood the boss is in and hopefully we could tuck you in a copy of the Curse as 'service.' (It has beautiful box art if I'm thinking of the right mo fo.) Then you could keep your shaven raver copy as a lesson to future generations: playing games is far more important than collecting them. Until they become collectable.
