Combo = Combination of moves.
MK3 had combo's too, but everybody was too busy memorizing the silly connecting moves thing that you call combo's.
After you get over the excitement from the blood and fatalities (which are both laughable by todays standards) MK is just a really stiff game that lacks the fluidity of other fighting titles.
Street Fighter all the way.
I guess I never really equated those as combos because they are easy to pull off and give less damage unlike auto combo attack that took a little memorization to do, and just looked awesome when you pull it off.
With that said, UMK3 is the best classic MK out there, it has auto-combos and regular combos that MKII had, but is much better.
For the home consoles, MK3 is better than UMK3 imo.

I'm not a big fan of fighting games but I like Mortal Kombat more then Street Fighter.
I fall into the Street Fighter camp. Mortal Kombat was awesome for it's time, but the series became stagnant after Mortal Kombat 3 IMHO. Street Fighter on the other hand kicks ass to this day, in most of it's incarnations. Love the Alpha series.
MK controls suck too much. I played a little on the PS2 but the combos system is ridiculously hard.
SFII > MK
I would add that special moves should give a tactical advantage and as such should easily be executed.
the best fighting game that embodies this philosophy is Eternal Champion
Art of Fighting is better than SFII.
If I had time and resources to program a fighting game, I would take inspiration from Eternal Champions the original. add more detail animation, tweak the mana system with some elements taken from Art of Fighting. I would also create the single player as a kind of adventure/platforming/Fighting game. I always wanted to see Larcen in some kind of Dick Tracy platforming
I would not create combos as such. it is ridiculous. unless you play a game like X-Men vs Street Fighter type of games. By the way, on MAME this is the very best of its kind. combos should just happen by themselves. however juggling sucks so strike a balance
I would make Hitting On the Ground like in Virtual Fighter For Genesis only a finisher move/ or at least only usable once or twice. Pretty pointless otherwise.

Voted SF2: far more in-depth gameplay, way more elegant. I loved MK, but it's far more show, far less substance. I used to use just 2 or 3 basic moves that every single character has, and still be able to win most matches--that seems unbalanced.
Mortal Kombat. Can't really explain why.

^ Killer Instinct is probably the most under appreciated fighting game in the history of the video games.
It definitely holds its own against both SF and MK
Ahhhh, Now that's the stuff..........

Since Killer Instinct isn't a choice(goddamn Heathens) I went ahead and chose Street Fighter. Once the initial HOLY SHIT YOU JUST FUCKING RIPPED THAT GUYS HEAD OFF!! OH MY GOD *vomits* shock went away, the MK series wasn't that great of a game. Hell the computer was so fucking cheap in UMK3, the only person I could pass it with was Sub-Zero. Street Fighter also blows, too slow paced for me. Course this is all my opinion.
I never meant for this thread to be a poll. Damn mods![]()
