Default Genesis and SNES in harmony

Growng up I had both a Sega Genesis and a Super Nintendo. I benefited from a family that loved video games. My parents, even my Aunt and Uncle were in on the fun. It was a gaming family. My cousins and I were of the few youngsters that loved both systems and played them equally.

I must admit though, I did go through phases in which I'd favor one more than the other. Mostly when a hot new title was released on a particular system. I certainly was logging more time into the Genny when Sonic 2 was released.

Did anyone else have a similar experience in the 16 era? So many peeps talk about the console wars, but they were at peace in my household.

Most of my friends had preferences but a good game is a good game. We played a crap load of SOR at my place and SFII at my buddies house.

I was raised in a divorced family, so in one household, I had a Genesis. In the other, I had an SNES. So you could say I had the same enlightened view of era as you

Being born in mid '89 I was pretty young throughout the "16-bit era" (4th console generation), I don't even remember a whole lot of the advertizing from the time. The question's a bit moot for me though since the only active console we had was an NES until well into the "32-bit era" (5th gen), we got an SNES with a bunch of games from a neighbor around 1995 (I think it was Christmas of '95 so the N64 was released only a few months later, and the others were all out already). We also had an atari boxed-up, but that didn't get used by me until 2001 or so.

Of couse I'd had a PC to use from a pretty young age too, with a few games mostly educational stuff until X-Wing.

But I did have some friends that I grew up with that had the systems earlier, but I don't remember being over at their houses any earlier than '95, specifically that summer (most I'd met when I started school in fall of '94). I had one freind in particular I remember that had several consoles, an NES 2 and a Genesis 2 iirc at this time, don't remember an SNES but he may have had one. I distinctly remember that he was the first person I knew that got an N64.

We pretty much grew up with nintendo as far as console went though, as I said PC gaming was fairly significant too (which transfered over to my elementary and middle school computer labs, those were cool teachers).
I never felt biased toward Nintendo though, and despite the Playstation being common, and me having relatively little exposure to Sega products, the Sega stuf seemed more special. I dont know, the Saturn just seemed to have some kind of exotic feel at the time, and all sega controllers seems a bit different with their large size (esp the Saturn's) with 6 face buttons.

The decision toward nintendo probably was due to the kid friendly reputation, the fact we had an NES, and (in the SNES case) we had a neighbor offer to sell one.

We didn't end up getting an N64 until christmas of '99, so that was a bit of a gap too.

The first system I really remember launching was the Dreamcast, I remember some of the early commercials, the store displays everything. (there was a lot of that for the N64, but I really didn't see any until 1997 when Star Fox 64 was released and I saw the display at blockbuster)
I thought the Dreamcast was pretty cool, it wasn't out long enough for us to really consider buying it. I remember playing Crazy Taxy in Fry's, I cant seem to remember anyone I knew owning one though. (most I knew had the N64, which was still pretty new)

I had a friend who had both, so I got to play both systems in late 1992 & 1993.

Lots of SMW and Mario Kart.

I was born in '92, and my family were Sega fans. We got the Mega Drive at around '93 or '94 (It had a 32x advert on the box). I actually had no idea the SNES existed until around early 2000's.

    So uh, no comment.

I started with the NES, and when it came time for me to get a new system I wanted a Sega Genesis.

Super Mario Bros 3 and Zelda II satisfied me enough as far as Nintendo games went. I already had owned a Game Gear that gave me a taste of Sega games, I wanted the full console.

My family never got any game consoles ("We have a computer, why do we need something less powerful" they said), so I had to rely on friends. One of my friends had a Genesis and another had an SNES so I played both. Right now I tend more towards Genesis, though, because I don't have a lot of time for some of the slower-paced games RPGs and super-long platformers that dominate the SNES. Faster games like blasters and Sonic just fit my schedule better these days.

I got SNES experience before MD, and the game was Super Mario Kart... sometime later I got MD and its my most used system with some of the most awesome games there are. So far, SNES has offered me very little of that, but I have not really looked what SNES offers.... RPGs aren't my thing, I only want action :P

I think anyone still 'serious' about MD vs. SNES needs to get a life.

A couple friends of mine had the SNES, while I only had my Genesis. At home, I played Sonic 2 and Street Fighter II SCE all the time.

Now and then I played the SNES over friends' houses -- Super Mario World, F-Zero, Mario Kart, and I remember looking at Mario Paint. Whenever I played the SNES, it was out of curiosity, but none of the games ever grabbed me. I had grown up with the NES, enjoying Mario 1 and 3, but Mario World never seemed interesting to me, no matter how far I played into the game. I always thought Mario 3 was much better!

Basically, I played the SNES enough to get bored with a handful of its most popular games, and so I felt I was not missing out!
