I'm surprised no one mentioned sports games. A good sports game has limitless replay value, especially against another player. Some examples:
NFL 94 Starring Joe Montana
Cyberball
NBA Live 95
Virtua Racing
Mutant League Football
Super Baseball 2020

^NBA Jam and TE for that matter.
Don't NBA Jam games lack too much depth even with 2 or 4 players.
Depth? No. They're arcade-style. They're simply fun.
^True dat. Mrs. Pac Man for sure.
For me:
- King's Bounty (The game has a different layout every time you play it).
- Speedball 2 (A great sports game that I've never mastered).
- Both of the MechWarrior Mercenaries games.
Wrestling games
Specifically FPR, No Mercy & 2k16.
It can also get boring, Sci-Fi. I love the first Jam as much as the next person, but it's something that can burn somebody out.
Casual and Infinite Replay do not go well together. Because if a casual plays a casual game for too long, they too will discover no substance setting in a little too quick. Casual playing to me is somebody playing something in very short bursts and then forgetting about said game before anything is ever learned about said game. I mean, can you imagine lasting playing NBA Jam tournaments anywhere near as much as Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat tournaments? I sure can't. And maybe that's why I've never heard of NBA Jam tournaments, while I have of classic SFII and even participated in an MK2 tournament.
Yeah, you're contradicting yourself there Thief. It's, in fact, those "substanceless" games that will please the casual gamers.
