    Default The "New" Mega Drive

im sure alot of you have heard and seen these "new" mega drives that have been in the shops recently. made under licence from sega they have 15 games built in a believe and are completely region free so will play any old cart no matter what its country!

but has anyone actually purchased one? are they any good? and more importantly does the 32x work with it?

    discuss away!

Emulation based (32bit ARM CPU), incompatible to some games, awful mono sound, composite AV only - any of the original variants is better than this.
The Mega Drive was far inferior to the NES in terms of diffusion rate and sales in the Japanese market, though there were ardent Sega users. But in the US and Europe, we knew Sega could challenge Nintendo. We aimed at dominating those markets, hiring experienced staff for our overseas department in Japan, and revitalising Sega of America and the ailing Virgin group in Europe.

Then we set about developing killer games.

Youtube vids show the built-in games work fine but actual cartridges have issues. Even games that mostly work have incorrect sound effects.

There is no point in getting a clone so long as the original machines are plentiful and cheap. Don't bother, I'd say.

I've never purchased one and never will as I've already heard lots of bad stuff about it. also it's FUGLY! and not compatible being w/ SEGA CD and 32X automatically makes this worthless garbage.

have to agree its a waste of money! nothing beats the real hardware IMO and this cheap tat isnt even proper hardware its just a BAD emulator in a box....

yet another great decision from sega to allow this product to be licenced!

Just read the negative reviews it has on Amazon.com.
Avoid that like the plague, if you're going to spend $30-40 on that you might as well get the real thing off ebay.

It looks promising, but then again I alread 3 original Genesis model and 2 of the latter models so I have no need for it. It would be an opportunity for homebrewers to take advantage of if Sega won't sue.
    Some call me PTW-ACE.

Eh, not worth it. That thing really is ugly as Hell. Looks cheaply made, and the green just throws the whole thing off. What games are built in?

The usual candidates I assume: Alien Storm, Alex Kidd, Shadow Dancer, Sonic & Knuckels, etc. pp.

It's probably pretty good for casual fans who feel like replaying a coupla' games from their youth once in a while but for die hard Mega Drive fans who absolutely must have the best it's a bit too cheaply made.

Still very nice to see a new Mega Drive in all the upmarket UK game stores again though
