Oh, I see. Well that shakes up my belief.

Do you have a link to the auction though? I'd like to see what the auction contained and described.

And of cause you can also play a used cart only copy for example or just use emulators
I'm not arguing either way, but wouldn't it be better if there was a complete opened version of the game included? That way you would be saying, "Here is a sealed copy that will go up in value and to treasure and also a version included to play and enjoy the way it was meant to be."

That's what I did when I used to sell graded comics. That way the buyer can actually use it and still keep one minty. It's not like it costs much compared to the profits.

I never saw the point in grading comics. I always loved to read them, they could be worth 10,000 dollars, they're just comics books. Why seal them up in a case?

Same with video games really, but like comic books, to each his own.

While we're all asking questions, i'd like to know how one becomes a "famous" video game seller.

Dark sol... it might be a bubble. 3 hundreds years ago it was all about Tulips here. people were selling houses just to buy rare tulips bulbs because the prices could only go up so people said at the time. same thing for houses in the USA a few years ago.
so believe me the price of sealed games cannot go up forever. it is impossible.

Not trying to prove anything. If all you were doing was posting auctions for outrageous amounts, hey that's your business and I feel sorry for anyone who would actually pay that much for anything you have.

Then someone posted about your BS "UBER RARE DISPLAY CASE". I just thought that the members here might enjoy reading about your month long rant about how you got "screwed". Granted, the seller didn't act like a real prince about it, but I didn't see him posting your personal information on the internet. But for you to get a full refund without returning anything and then turn around and try to sell it for 6 times as much as some sort of "RARE DISPLAY CASE" seems like a bad move. Just thought that they should know the whole story.

As for what is written in the auction:

I realized that this is a display case that was displayed at a store to promote game years and years ago.
A decided to keep it as a part of Lunar collection cause i've never seen ANY lunar display cases, only ugly paper standees..
The case itself is not the original Sega CD case! It is a little deformed and does not even have the disk placement.
The "new" manual and back artwork are present though. Which double confirms that that is not made from the casual Sega CD Lunar 2...

    1. How is this not an original Sega CD case?
    2. The disk placement is not there because it was removed. If you need more info about that, read any of the rants against Gamestop selling opened games.
    3. What is this "new" manual and back artwork that you speak of? New in that it is not like the stuff that shipped with "real" copies of Lunar? Or new as in unused?
    4. If this was a designed "display case" from the factory, why a manual at all instead of just an insert of what the cover looks like? I mean, there is no way to see what is in the manual while it was on the shelf.

    eBay item #130308358205

Sorry that I didn't use a proper link. I hate long eBay links.

Or you can just check the other items that he has listed for sale and find it that way.

and here I thought the $500 Genesis DS-16 cartridge switcher was ridiculous. This $1899 auction takes the cake.

There's no single game worth that price on any game system past or present. Just a cheap way to get rich.

If you have $1900 to spend, buy a laptop, a high-end one. I'm guessing a Macbook, but please don't waste your money on a video game cartridge.

Oh, I see it now. It makes him look kind of an ass for trying to sell it off as a display case after he bought it and got a refund for it.

It is possible that it IS a display case though, after all it's from a company that Gamestop bought out that did the exact same practices of selling games as new in display cases.

It's actually not that ridiculous when you think about it, sealed copies of Chrono Trigger have gone around $1,500 on eBay. It's ridiculous if you don't like buying sealed games, sure.

That DS-16 auction just pisses me off every time I look at it though. Something that would look absolutely great in a classic video game store in some kind of kiosk, at such a horrible price.

OK, looks like you really want to start some huge offtopic here. I am not sure if it's up to the rules, but i'll lreply.

    1) because it's of different shape. It never made to a "rental" for sure.
    2) Where can i read about it? Can you give me some links? Electronics Boutique was a Gamestop or what?
I don't see a point in opening a factory sealed game, throwing away the disc with insert(?) , resealing back and sticking the price tag on it?
    3) Cause they are new from the factory that's sure. Like from a factory sealed lunar game.
    4) I guess production of some special inserts was not possible (maybe due to number of copies printed), so just a casual lunar manual was inserted.

Again JM i'd like to say that's the only reason why it was listed as a display case (and in fact, technically it indeed was a display case) and not just a "lunar box+inserts", cause the shape of the box is different from the casual sega cd case. I don't know maybe it was originally a real lunar game in a simply flawed case, but i've had tonns of sega cd games and none of them looks like this one.

The ones I had I usually got when I would buy lots from people getting out of the hobby. I completly agree with you, that's why I would at least give them a copy to read with them.

#2---They don't throw away the disc and inserts. They have them in a case and use the empty box as a way to have the product on the shelf without giving people a copy to steal.

Okay, you have gotten me very interested in this.

    1. How is the shape different? Are the dimensions different? What are the dimensions of the case? I am truly curious. As for why, see my reply to 3+4.

    2. I don't have a link right now, but there are tons of Gamestop/EBGames rants about how they will open games and take the "guts" out and put the empty box on the shelf for display. If you buy the last copy, they will take the empty box and put the guts back in it, (and allegedly some stores would also reseal it for you) and sell it to you as new. This irritated a lot of people since they were buying a "new" game.

Also, the game wouldn't be thrown away, but held behind the counter until the display copy was purchased. It may be in this case that someone stole the display case, or it was left over when the store went out of business.

3+4. I have it on very good authority that Working Designs never produced 'display "dummies"' (his words) for Lunar 2 Eternal blue. So this display case was most likely created by someone at Walden Software.

Also, Dark Sol, I don't mean to sound disrespectful, but you really have been coming off as a bit of an elitist snob. Most of us have been in this game (no pun intended) fo a long time, so we aren't ignorant when it comes to what constitutes mint, opened, sealed, whatever.

One thing that I think would help in your auctions is not adding in the "famous Russian collector" thing. Sad to say but there is still a lot of cold war era distrust and Yakov Smirnov (which I still haven't forgiven you for lol) jokes in people's mind that brings up memories of fake Levi's and Nike's that poured into America and the rest of the world back then.

Again, I'm not meaning any disrespect. Just remember, this is a video game forum. It';s supposed to be about fun.
