It is possible that it IS a display case though, after all it's from a company that Gamestop bought out that did the exact same practices of selling games as new in display cases.

It's actually not that ridiculous when you think about it, sealed copies of Chrono Trigger have gone around $1,500 on eBay. It's ridiculous if you don't like buying sealed games, sure.

That DS-16 auction just pisses me off every time I look at it though. Something that would look absolutely great in a classic video game store in some kind of kiosk, at such a horrible price.
it's not ridiculous if no one else but you know that you paid that much for a game.

I like to dabble with classic video games for time to time on ebay auctions, but I still have my sense on what a deal and what's plain robbery.

    2. I don't have a link right now, but there are tons of Gamestop/EBGames rants about how they will open games and take the "guts" out and put the empty box on the shelf for display. If you buy the last copy, they will take the empty box and put the guts back in it, (and allegedly some stores would also reseal it for you) and sell it to you as new. This irritated a lot of people since they were buying a "new" game.

Also, the game wouldn't be thrown away, but held behind the counter until the display copy was purchased. It may be in this case that someone stole the display case, or it was left over when the store went out of business.

3+4. I have it on very good authority that Working Designs never produced 'display "dummies"' (his words) for Lunar 2 Eternal blue. So this display case was most likely created by someone at Walden Software.

    JY
There's probably a super high chance that Walden Software created it, after all Gamestop creates dummies for pre-releases and "Coming Soon!" games all the time.

I would also like to know the answers to your questions as well Jimmy.

One thing that I think would help in your auctions is not adding in the "famous Russian collector" thing. Sad to say but there is still a lot of cold war era distrust and Yakov Smirnov (which I still haven't forgiven you for lol) jokes in people's mind that brings up memories of fake Levi's and Nike's that poured into America and the rest of the world back then.

Again, I'm not meaning any disrespect. Just remember, this is a video game forum. It';s supposed to be about fun.
Weird that you felt so. Didn't want to sound like a snob or elitist of any kind.

The thing about the box size has me puzzled. If you look at the pictures he posted of it sitting beside a 'legit' copy of the game, they look the same size.

Alright, question for Dark Sol. How much is my factory sealed copy of Shining Force CD worth?

I doubt the box size is any different, as I saw the pictures as well.

And Jerry, are you referring to that copy you got for free? Lol.

    1) It is of really low "production" quality and does not even close properly, the plastic is deformed on the left spine and the places where the opening/closing parts are situated. Dimensions are the same i guess.
    2) Oh i see. Thanx for information. Maybe you are even right. But these there must be a really huge concidences . E.g - a) making a case like this in the first place b) stealing it from the shop? lol c) being stupid enough to sell it on ebay like a game d) i was stupid enough to buy. lol
3+4) Yes, this is correct i believe. However i still wonder where this case appeared from. I've never heard about Walden Software. Did they make cases?

    1. I can't attest to the quality of the case, but maybe being wrapped in shrinkwrap, (only you will know whether or not it was very tight), warped the case out of shape since there was no disc tray to give it strength.

    2. Not that uncommon. Put a box on display to cut down on theft. As for why it was left over, probably when the store went out of business. As for selling it. Maybe the seller, (not the nicest guy, I'll grant you), didn't realize that it was empty. Or maybe he was a scammer.

3+4. Walden Software (if I remember) was an offshoot of Walden Books, (now Borders). At some point I believe that they were all under the same umbrella as Software, Etc. and one other company. Much like at one time Gamestop, Babbages, and Funcoland all operated under the same umbrella.

My thoughts: Just a standard copy of the game that had the disc tray removed to be put out for display and somehow made it out of the store like that and I'll just leave it there.

Also, weren't all Sega CD cases of low quality?

    1) Hmm you know you may be right! Somehow i never thought about it. But i think if you remove the insert and leave it for a dozen of years then case can possible deform in a natural way... hmm... holy shit i think it is possible
    2) Well that's quite an insane chain of concidences then. lol.
3+4) And what did this walden software make? I am not familiar with american companies, just some of them

You've had some good points JY. I guess i will pull the crap down immidiately.

Yes Sega cd cases are always crap

I think we are just going to have to come to terms that Dark Sol and the gamers like us live in different worlds. I can't ever imagine paying that much money for something that at that point isn't even a game anymore. In his world though, it seems to have it's own niche group of people he deals with and this is common practice. So he's got his own thing, and while I don't agree with any of these prices, I get it. And if he does sell this game, it will be to another collector like him, one who knows what they're doing and what it's worth.

    Overall you are absolutely right.
However we live in the same worlds. Out of 600 games i have - about 500 are used games which play/played.

I hope I didn't come off as an ass. I was just letting you know how I read your posts.

When it comes to prices, like I've said it's all dependant on what someone will pay. I mean, I just ordered three board games and dropped 160 bucks where most people would say they can get three board games at Toys R Us for $30 lol
