    Ps1 Nostalgic for the PlayStation

Anyone here nostalgic for the PlayStation? It came out about 15 years ago, December 1994 in Japan, only 6 years after the Mega Drive came out. Seems like a long time ago now. I was listening to the soundtrack of Ridge Racer Revolution -- love that one!

Also I saw on Wikipedia this:
The name "PlayStation" is the opposite of the existent word "workstation".
That had never occurred to me! heh

To me, the PS1 era was one of the best, along with Sega Genesis era, NES and the early arcade days. (Well, the later arcade days were cool too). But I thought PS1 symbolized something special. It brought in a lot of new minds and types of games. 3D really came into its own then. Personally I never enjoyed the Saturn the same, and systems like 3DO were too primitive by comparison.

    Favorite PS1 games:

    King's Field (I know, I'm weird)
    Ridge Racer 1 & 2
Toshinden (more for memories than actual gameplay)
    Wipeout series (these are spectacular!)
Final Fantasy 7 (amazing, but I never got very far)
Persona (I guess... it's not fun though)
    Castlevania Symphony of the Night
    Suikoden
    Tecmo's Deception
    Metal gear solid
    Jumping Flash
    Pandemonium
    Motor Toon Grand Prix
    Tomb Raider
    Resident Evil
    Twisted Metal
    Tony Hawk's Pro Skater
    Silent Hill
Legacy of Kain (except for loading times)

Also I think the controller is one of the most definitive of all time.

Yeah, Klonoa or Tomba, which is better? I didn't like both Although I only played a little of Tomba 2.

Sorry I should have put this in the Insert Coin section.

    THE LEGEND OF DRAGOON

This was the game that got me into RPG's. Just reading this thread makes me want to replay it for like the sixth time

I was a big fan of the PlayStation, first person I knew to buy one.

King's Field was utter sweetness back in the day, but it hasn't aged well--very hard to play now.
Wipeout series on the PS is probably the best series of racing games I've ever played on any system.
FF7 was nice, but I didn't follow the series afterwards.
Resident Evil--fond memories of the original "survival horror."
Legacy of Kain was pretty sweet--awesome voice acting, good atmosphere, etc.
The controller was very hard to get used to for me: I had to completely relearn how to work a controller just to pull off the special moves in Toshinden (which was another damn good early title).

I had more fun with the Saturn, but the Playstation was a favorite of the time as well.

    Some of my favorites:

    Front Mission 3
    Parappa the Rappa
    Namco Museum collections
Wipeout (just as fun on the Saturn)
    Destruction Derby
    Warhawk
NFL Gameday (the last great sprite based football game)
    Ridge Racer R4
    Gran Turismo 2
    Ace Combat
    Colony Wars
    Vandal Hearts
    Lunar 1 and 2
    Wild Arms
Philosoma (sold it for $30 about a year ago)
Thunder Force V (Thanks to WD for the Saturn port)
    Nectaris: Military Madness

A Black Falcon: no, computer games and video games are NOT the same thing. Video games are on consoles, computer games are on PC. The two kinds of games are different, and have significantly different design styles, distribution methods, and game genre selections. Computer gaming and console (video) gaming are NOT the same thing."

I owned a Playstation, and it came at a time when I could actually afford to buy a lot of games. But I never developed an affinity for the Playstation name like did for Sega or Nintendo.

That being said, I had a fair number of games for the system, and I pretty much liked them all:

    Castlevania: SOTN
    Mega Man Legends 1 & 2
    Misadventures of Tronne Bonne
    Skullmonkeys
    Crash Bandicoot 1 & 2
Crash Team Racing (I liked this one more than Mario Kart 64, actually)
    Future Cop LAPD

    Rayman
    Doom
    Ridge Racer
    Grand Turismo
    Power Slave
    Tomb Raider
    Spyro

and most of the sequels to the above.

Some great games mentioned. I like Mega Man Legends, Destruction Derby, Thunder Force V (but not as much as III).... Never played Legend of Dragoon or Skullmonkeys, and so many of these... Medieval has beautiful graphics but I found the bosses frustrating (from what I remember). Crash Bandicoot disappointed me, but I think I ended up beating it perfectly (whatever that meant), Rayman I never really played, but I remember it was advertised like hell. Powerslave and Medal of Honor gives me headaches, as all FPSes on TVs do.

I bought a Playstation for WCW Vs. The World. Other than that I really can't think of a game on it that really wowed me. I'm not saying there weren't good, even great games on it, but they just didn't really do anything for me. I liked the Saturn and the N64 better.

I do remember disappointment with it, however. I was so looking forward to Blasto, mainly for Phil Hartman doing the voice, then the game turned out to be utter shit.

Agreed, I do know FF fanatics who write it off due to the junction system though. They never played through it, and bash it at every turn while praising the cookie cutter FF9/DragonsBallZ/Crap.

FF8's credit scroll was cool too, the camcorder clip.
Lots of stats to lord over, lot's of customization, lots of secrets, a space ship for an air ship. The best in-game-card-battling-game. It's just awesome all around, and shit on by retards.

I was miffed about the Amnesia Deus Ex Machina again, but not as much as with 9, and...'Lost Odyssey'
Ugh...Sakaguchi will prophetically die of alhemizers, just you watch.

The junction system was one of the things I really liked about it, and turn based fighting instead of that real time crap. I spent many hours just playing the in game card battling, and your right, it is just awesome all round!

I was a Saturn kid at the time so I really didn't care tha tmuch about. I still don't like the 3d games but I have realized there are a ton of 2d games of Ps1 I missed out on that I collect now.
