I got my model 2 Genesis when the model 2 CD came out, paying what was then the "full" price for both... whatever that was at a retail store. I later got my 32X at launch time, paying the launch price - but it did come with coupons for money off a few different 32X games.
I bought another 32X later for like $20... or less. I don't remember exactly how much now. I got it originally because I wished to take it apart to see what parts were in it. I put it back together and it sat in my closet for a decade. I recently got a CDX so that I could experiment with link cable networking in my homebrew. I paid $160 for the CDX, two six buttons controllers, and six games. The second 32X went onto that and the whole thing works great.
There were no "deals" to be made when I got my first system. I probably could have gotten the CDX for less, but I've never won an eBay auction in over five years (never!), so I just found the best deal for "Buy It Now" at the time and bought it outright.
$30 for my model 1, $45 for a Model 2, $35 for an untested model 2 that turned out fine.

I got mine for $150. But this is also including two Sega Mega Drive II's, some controllers and some games.
The MegaCD 1 unit I keep set up for use was originally given to me for xmas '93, it was purchased from EB and cost £245 (still have the original receipt)
In May '95 I sold it to my cousin, along with my MegaDrive and 32X in order to fund the purchase of a Sega Saturn.
In March 2000 I re-acquired my original MegaDrive, MegaCD and 32X back from my cousin Andy for nothing![]()

My first Sega CD I paid $100 for it back in 1995
the Sega CD I picked up this year that included the Genesis model 1 I bought off of ebay at the Buy It Now price of $30
I got my Sega CD around 2006 for $50 at a flea market. It also came with a model 2 Genesis, a bunch of Genesis sports games that I did'nt care about, and quite a few Sega CD games including Dragon's Lair, Space Ace, Panic, Spiderman, Prince of Persia, Ecco 2 and Sewer Shark. I already had a Model 2 Genesis, but its cartridge slot was loose.
$80 (I think probably near 100 shipped) for my model 1 Sega CD off of Ebay a couple of years ago. It came with a model 2 genesis and a 32x though. I also got an "as-is" untested model 2 Sega CD off of ebay for $14 that just needed an AC adapter.
I got my model 2 at a Play N Trade (not the one I worked for) for $35, but the gears for the laser sled (to reduce the speed from the 10,000 RPM electric motor to something reasonable) had a broken shaft. It worked thanks to the way they were configured it couldn't go anywhere, but it grinded alot. I bought a Sega CD with a bad motherboard from the Play N Trade I DID work for for $10 and swapped the drives. So all in all, I paid $45, but I have a bunch of spare parts like upper and lower cases and the laser is still good in the original drive, so I could replace it if the current one ever went out.
As for whether or not its worth it, it TOTALLY is, I love my Sega CD, and if you're a cheapass you can burn every game ever released for it to compensate a slightly high initial purchase price.
$25 for a Model 2 back in 2004
$25 for a Model 1 back in 2006.

Throughout history, suspicion has always bred conflict. The real conflict, though, resides in people's hearts. This conflict has just begun.

$10 for a used, mint condition Sega CD 2 at the defunct FuncoLand back in 1998. I assume that by then they were being sold at rock-bottom prices, as most people unloaded their SCD's and 32X's after the 32-Bit consoles picked up steam. Games were already hard to come by when I bought it, especially popular ones like Sonic CD.
I kept the SCD (and the Genesis 2 that I previously owned) for a couple of months when, after growing tired of the Genesis and not being able to sell it off anywhere, I left my Genny 2/w Sega CD 2 attached, and a label-less copy of "Mortal Kombat 3" plugged in, in a black bag on a pile of trash on a New York City street, free for anyone to take.
i payed £30 for a boxed model 2 mega cd last year from entertainment exchange i asked the guy at the counter if they had one and he didnt even know what it was. then one of the older guys working their stepped in and dusted the cobwebs out to get it
