Default An Old Funco Land Price List

The last time that I set foot in a Funco Land game shop was in January of 2001. During that trip, I picked up a price list of their entire game catalog. For your enjoyment, I've decided to upload the Genesis section of that very guide that I've had for many years now:

    Attachment 840 Attachment 841 Attachment 842

2000-2001 was probably the BEST time to buy Genesis games cheaply (and with the game box most of the time). You'll see that there are many great deals on this price list!

Thank you for making me feel sad. There are at least 30 games on that list I would buy at those prices, assuming they were complete with box and manual.

I got my copy of MUSHA from them back in 2000 at around that price. It was cart-only though.

A few weeks later, a local video store sold off all their old inventory, and I found the box and manual (game was missing) for MUSHA there for $5, and while the manuals was a bit bent, the box was absolutely mint. I also got the hint books for Phantasy Star 2 and Sword of Vermilion for $2 each. Good times.

I miss Funcoland. On the up side, I was collecting at that time, so I got a lot of good games cheap. The downside is I'm an idiot and sold almost all of them. Now I'm recollecting them, usually at decent prices, but not as cheap as back then. And some games, like Streets of Rage 3, I have been unable to replace because it's pricey now

If only Gamestop wasn't like the Borg of game specialty shop chains and didn't buy out most of the competition.

Nice prices, one never could have found retro-games for that low here in Holland (maybe Sonic 2 though), even on e-bay the cheap stuff comes from Germany (where one has to be careful not getting a German-language version) and the UK. There also is a lack of physical gameshops selling retro games (especially Sega, since most of them keep the Nintendo stuff and dump the Sega). Maybe for us it's even good news that Gamestop is going to try to get hold of the Dutch market

At that time, you had Gamestop, Funcoland, Babbages, and Electronics Boutique. Now, they're just one, big, crappy store. I guess that's why the FCC is supposed to regulate monopolies...

I bought several NES/Genesis/SNES games off of Funcoland (and Software Etc., who in my part of town shared their inventory with FuncoLand apparently) during 2001 at great prices. In the case of NES games, some of them even came with their manuals and looked like they came straight out of a box. The challenge was finding a store with the game you wanted: even though all stores carried that price list, it didn't mean that they had the game you wanted.

Oh, and those bastards were very much aware of what games were uncommon/rare at the time, which you can see by the prices of games such as SoR3. But SNES had more of those high-priced games. I once got a 100% (IIRC) return on a copy of "Final Fantasy II" (SNES) that I bought at a local store for $24.99 back in late 2000, only to flip it at a Software Etc. just days later. They gave me the most credit I've ever received for a game at their stores. I bought myself an OG brick Game Boy and a couple of games with that credit.

I sure do miss Funcoland/Software Etc.

Definitely. They are just hard to find. Or at least, good ones are. I've found some that think anything "vintage" requires premium buying. When I lived in Arlington, Virginia, I found a great one that dealt in retro and import gaming. But in the Bay Area, I have yet to find one that's good. There are a few I've been meaning to check out, however. Once you find a good mom'n'pop store, you covet it like a gold mine. They can be quite rewarding.

Me, too. I miss the competition of the gaming chains.

Wow musha for that price! I paid 40 for a damn cart only and it had a home made label (not even sure it was real sold it) anyway its on wii vc for like 8 bucks now and you can always emulate but for collecting damn!

As for the mom and pop shops around here its basically pawnshops (one of which is game focused) all other places are chains and big box stores we do have one new indie which I hear great things about just haven't made it out there yet. Really need to.
