I first played Virtual On with the Saturn gamepad, it wasn't until later that I found an Arcade cabinet and found the tank controls cumbersome. I ended up playing it exactly how I did on Saturn instead.
I had to convince my former college roomate to buy OT on Xbox Live and he played with the Twin Stick controls once and switched it to the standard controls the Dreamcast gamepad had instead. I actually find the Dual Analog Twin Stick mode in this version inferior to the actual digital Twin Sticks. I have, in the last five years, managed to collect two sets of Twin Sticks that I can use on the Saturn and Dreamcast thanks to a Lik Sang converter I picked up before Sony shut them down. Having played both ways I can still enjoy both games equally with or without the Twin Sticks.
So I really, really do not understand why most reviews and subsequently most gamers just blow the Virtual On games off entirely just because of Twin Stick prices.

Sheath, I don't doubt the game is awesome with a twin stick setup, what I should have got across in my post is that it was far from 'game-breaking' to play with just the Saturn pad. Playing with two people regularly also made it less desirable for me since you would need two sets of sticks to make it fair (I know...)
Compounding that, I'm not sure those things even made it to Adelaide at the time.
Hard Drivin'. Yeah, I slammed it a Bit in my review, and I don't think the Genesis-Port to be a good game. But still, it has a certain charm - the rocking Main theme, the Faux-3d perspective, the possibility to race against your virtual self, and the faint mooing you hear if you hit the cow... I dunno, but I find this kinda charming. It's slow, it starts chugging when other cars appear, it controls like a shopping cart in a partially frozen bullpen - slippery one moment, and sticky the next - and yet, in short bursts, I still kinda like it.
The funny thing about an oxymoron is, even if you remove the ox, there'll always be a moron. The Question Remains: Y?
Sports games aren't usually considered 'classics' but I absolutely love NHL '94... its a great series on the Genesis!
Start, ABBA ABBA to level skip to carpet ride!
Considering that NHL '94 is usually agreed on to be the pinnacle of hockey games during the 16bit area this isn't really considered to be crap or mediocre - in fact, even today I usually hear nothing but praise about that very game (there's a reason why EA included a '94-mode in last year's NHL 14...)
Now, if you said "Mario Lemieux Hockey" instead...

You know I haven't actually played any of the newer NHL games. I'll have too now though since it has a '94 settingthanks!

Same games not mentioned too often or are generally shat' upon that I have always enjoyed..
Atomic Robo Kid
Junction
Trampoline Terror
Phantasy Star III
Shove It
Heavy Nova
Beast Wrestler
Death Dual
Yes - I really enjoyed these games. No - I am not entirely crazy.
MY SEGAS[Model 1 Sega CD x 5] [Model 1 HD Genesis w/Component Video] [Model 2 Genesis] [32X CIB] [Master System Model 3010] [Nomad w/LCD mod] [Dreamcast] [Saturn] [Game Gear]
Phantasy Star III is my favorite in the series, and the only RPG I have played through multiple times. Death Dual was fun in an experimental kind of way. I also got some enjoyment out of Technocop on rental back in the day, but this one is definitely an unfinished and clunky game.

Boxing Legends of the Ring: This game possesses a nice music track and very interesting visuals. As you jab, duck, punch, and pound your opponent mercilessly, the static picture of your opponent's face gradually changes as you do more damage. The controls are very intuitive and there is alot of strategy involved in terms of determining how best to outwit your opponent in order to win the boxing match. The developer did an excellent job with this title. Released for both the SNES and the Genesis, either version should quench your thirst for delivering a good beat down!
Your brain will thank you. Your fingers ... not so much!

Curse & Heavy Nova (Mega-CD version -> amazing music incl. the one during the introduction) + i'm pretty sure Black Hole Assault will rejoin them soon.
Yeah all Micronet stuff & i love many things from these games : mainly the music / atmosphere but also some visual design; gameplay mechanics...
Also, dunno if Caesar no Yabō I & II are generally rather praised or bashed but since i feel it's rather the 2nd option i can also add them to the list & yeah, still Micronet stuff here.
On the Genesis/MD?
Light Crusader
Golden Axe 2 (no idea why this game gets so much "meh")
I could name other games on other platforms but don't want to go too far OT.
@sheath - You're not usually the biggest RPG fan right? If you really like Phantasy Star III then I (as another non-RPG guy) will have to give it a try.
any Mario kart after Mario kart 64 up till the new one for the wiiU
