It usually costs anywhere from $35 to $45, depending on who you go to.

Shit yeah the Turbo is worth it! But like Black Tiger suggested, it might be best to buy a Japanese Duo system. That way you can pretty much play everything except US HuCards. And there are PLENTY of HuCard games worth buying. Devil's Crush/Crash, anyone? Better than the MD/Genesis version. Just read my Side by Side article on this site about it. Legendar Axe 1 and 2 are also really good and very common. Then don't forget Galaga 88/90 and many, many others. You can play US CD games on the JP console as well.

The PC Engine.TurboGrafx is VERY worth it! It is just as collectible as the Saturn. Same basic concept: crappy US selection, amazing Japan selection.

If I were to get a duo/CD unit, what are some CD games that I should look into?\

For the price this one that I'm looking at is going for, it looks like it would be easier to get this thing and then get it modded, unless AV modding it is going to be like getting the Genesis S-video modded and it costs like 400-500$

Some good CD games to start with are:

    Shooters:
    -Lords of Thunder (pretty common)
-Gate of Thunder (might be easier to obtain the JP version, but there are no voiceovers and the text is meaningless)
-Forgotten Worlds (has more levels and better graphics than the Genesis version, but it much tougher to play not only because of increased difficulty, but because of the lack of a third button).

    Adventure:
-Ys Book 1 and 2 (get the English version for sure. it is dated, but still well worth it).
-Ys 3 (it is choppy as all hell but the music is awesome. For some reason this disc is expensive).
-Dragon Slayer (Get the US version. It is dated and the graphics are teeny-tiny, but it is still great.)

    Action:
-Last Alert (Get ONLY the US version. The voice acting is, umm, "priceless"! Great game, too.)
-Dungeon Explorer 2 (US version is too expensive, get the JP edition)

Is the TG16 worth collecting for? Lots of the games for the system look pretty awesome, but I have no way of telling if these games are awesome enough to pay the price for ( I can't get any TG16 emulators working on my PC).
Maybe I'm used to it, but I don't think spending $50 or less for a game when you're collecting is expensive. And I'm poor. I think all of my saturn games were around $50 or more.

If you look at the list I made here -> http://www.sega-16.com/forum/showpos...66&postcount=3 . That's like 40+ US hucards that are worth owning IMO. The Japanese must have hucards are like Street Fighter 2, Parodius, Photograph Boy and other good titles to pickup Gradius, Salamander, Ninja Gaiden, Coryoon, Override, Tatsujin, Son Son 2, Tiger Road (better than the US version), Genji Tsushin Agedama, Final Soldier. To be honest, there isn't a whole lot more Japanese hucards than the US list I made that you are really missing. There are quite a few duds that didn't come out here. Mostly because they switched over to CD early on.

Getting a CD unit is definitely worth it. More mature generation of games are going to be on that format. A ton of great titles to be had and a few nice US CD titles to pickup as well.

Many people think of the Japanese Saturn as the spiritual successor to the PC-Engine Duo. Once you start collecting for the PCE as a whole, you'll understand

Some of my personal favorite import HuCard games are Dragon Egg, Rabio Lepus Special, Saint Dragon (the best port of it from the arcade IMO), and Download.

Alright I just shot an e-mail off to a console modder up in Edmonton to see what he wants for the TG-16 mod, if I can get some good deals with that guy then I'll go ahead and get me the TG-16 lot that I'm looking at right now. If not then I'll probably wait a little while and get me a Duo, then get that modded instead.

Also, any of you know some good PCengine emulators that will work with Vista 64? I can't seem to find any.

Is that "Old School Gamer" or something similar? If so, I believe that it'll cost you at least the price of a PC Engine to have your TG-16 modded.

I'm planning on getting him to mod some other stuff to, just seeing if he'll give me a packaged deal.

If it turns out that it would be more worth it to get a PCE/duo, then I will.

I heard that there's different cards that you need to use for the CD add on, how do those work?

There's a difference in PSG volume between a PCE/TG16+CD addon and a Duo unit. PSG is slightly lower in volume. Either way, if you do get a mod - also get a PSG volume mode (an external knob to adjust the PSG volume) for those few...ehmm... CD games that blaring PSG sound effects... I'm looking at you Rayxanber III!!

The mod isn't hard to make. The audio comes right off the processor pins.

How many different versions/addons of the PC-Engine/TurboGrafx are there anyway? It seems like a mess reading through this topic.
And what's with the hucards, and why are they called hucards?

Bonks Adventure 1 and 2, Legendary Axe 1 and 2, Splatterhouse, Air Zonk, Bravoman, Blazing Lasers, Ninja Spirit, China Warrior, R-Type, Vigilante and even Keith Courage are all good games on the TG16 but its true there are most/better imports for the system and it will NOT play them without an expensive adapter. If you do get an adapter you must get Street Fighter II that one really shows what the system is capable of. Really good port of SFII one of the best actually.

Hucards are the cartridge games. They are called Hucards because they are made by Hudson and they are the size of a card. Basically there is the PC Engine in Japan and the TG16 here. Then there is the CD-ROM add on for both. Then there are the Turboduo's witch are both in Japan and over here. The Turboduo is just a PCE/TG16 and the CD-ROM in one (thinks CDX) The confusing part is there are 3 or so versions of the PC Engine but basically they just added AV out as the original PCE didn't have that. They changed it from white to dark grey/black also. There is the Turbo Express or PC Engine GT witch is a portable PCE/TG16 with color screen. Then there is the Supergrafx witch is actually another system all together. Don't worry about that one. There are a few other odd ball variants like the Shuttle but that's just like a redesigned PCE (thinks Genesis3)

Bonks gave the creeps back in the day. He looked like a hydrocephalic version of batboy.
