    Default Classic C64 in C64C-casing.

Well I was just wondering, since the original '82 breadbox edition of the Commodore 64 is so damn ugly in appearance, would it be possible to exchange the innards with a much much better looking C128-styled C64C, the one with the 'fixed' SID-chip?

Ugly? Philistine! The Classic C64-"breadbox"-look is cult! The one I had actually went the other way round, it was a C128 in classic C64 casing. Never would want it any other way!

That being said, since it worked the other way round, I see no reason why it shouldn't be possible.
The funny thing about an oxymoron is, even if you remove the ox, there'll always be a moron. The Question Remains: Y?

Ahh good, so physically the mainboard will fit easily. keyboard connections are also the same?

No I really don't like the brownish grey (or is it greyish brown) seventies look of the classic casing. But you may ofcourse, as a lot of people will probably love it

Best would be ofcourse a C64 crammed in a ZX Spectrum 48K shell including the rotten corpse keys

Yeah I think the original is as classic looking as it gets but hey. Funny thing is I had 2 C64's and 2 C64C's all kept in boxes and now both C64C's don't work while the older C64's both work. So I wonder if the older ones were actually built better and they cheeped out even more on the C64C.

Strange, I read stuff that the power brick for the original version was unreliable or something and that you could fry your SID chips in some way

I hate the C64C with a passion, I was stuck with one for damn years after I accidentally melted my original C64, as soon as I finally replaced it with a real C64 the "C" was thrown straight into the loft, nasty little thing that it is.

Yeah you're right, the C64C is waay too big and flat to be refered to as a nasty little thing.

Nasty big and flat waste of space then

I prefer the breadbox's looks and keyboard. Something about the keys is so much better than the C. I have both and just use the breadbox. The hard part is disk drives that continue to work...
