Sonic Controlling the Chaos! Sonic 2

How do you Sonic 2 players run the bonus stages collecting the Chaos Emeralds. I always had a problem where tails being controlled by the stupid AI will cost me rings while going for the goal and ultimately lose. Back in the day i would have my older sister control him that way we could get to the goal. How do you all get the Chaos Emeralds Legit not using cheats....? playing alone?

last 3 stages are my problem ones...

Go to the Options menu before starting the game (it's hidden on the title screen, so press down twice), select Sonic Alone, press Start.

It was always a problem when you used Tails. So you had to make some sacrifices if you wanted to get Super Sonic; such as playing with Sonic alone. The way I saw it: even if I didn't actually manage to get all the chaos emmeralds, beating the game with just Sonic was a good challenge in itself (Not that much more of a challenge, though).

Yeah I've always just played as Sonic alone. It's too much of a hassle trying to get the Emeralds with Tails bumping into a bomb every ten seconds.

Most of the bosses in Sonic 2 are pretty easy, though.

it's not that hard, but you have to time your jumps in advance... Tails will also jump, but with a slight delay. If you just try jumping the bombs at the last second, Tails will definitely crash into them.

Pulling it off is not impossible, but you have to know where the obstacles are, since reacting at the very last moment is a no-go.

I have no issues playing with Sonic & Tails together in special stages until the last 2 or 3, then it gets a bit difficult, particulary because I don't exactly remember what will come since I get tired of Sonic2 too fast to get that far...

If you keep Tails around than you simply jump and move left to right a bit earlier than you would alone and that's how you clear the special stages.
