Read this today and had a go... I'm not techy enough to know if it's simply a java based emulation or someones actually built the sonic 1 engine in java

It was made by Sega for it's PlaySega service.
Play Sega is ALMOST what I have been preaching for ages with regards to retro game hosting. The only thing they did wrong is not make the games fully ad supported. All of the Genesis games are locked into a subscription fee, I think they could easily get that from ads. I would gladly watch a 30 second commercial before playing to get around that.
Anyone know what the fee structure is? they don't seem to want to disclose that anywhere on the site.
oh, and more on topic, I think they just took the Sonic sprites and made a pretty half-assed Java/Flash version of the game. It's really buggy and I think unacceptably so considering what the homebrew scene has done.

It's $6/month according to TSSZ.
No vsync, no fullscreen (afaik?) and is there scripting support at all?
The fee's aren't anywhere on their site short of providing your information. The terms of trial state subscription's take effect and payment terms then apply.
There are no payment terms anywhere on the site.
I've been digging around the 'sega pass' site, the closest you can find about 'payments' is them 'telling you what a billing cycle & recurring payment is.'
I find it absolutely hilarious, honestly.
I'm sure someone in the forums over there has probably said the subscription fees by now though.
I'd think that subscriptions would be up front right away when mentioning them all the time, but I guess Sega thinks data-mining peoples information first, is a fair trade for 'possible' customers. Maybe they are afraid to lose the constant ad-revenue, and offer to sell the info to the 'partners' who inject the ads to begin with; Subscriptions being unreliable extra income at best.
I'm drinking the paranoia flavored kool-aid on this one folks, I can 'see' what they're up to.![]()
But what about the free USB Sega Saturn pad you get if you buy a 3-month subscription?
ME WANT.
^Looks pretty.
I'm eager to hear about how well the pads hold up, I would definitely get a subscription if they turn out to be awesome.
Free while supplies last.
They want your info & agree to share it with 'partners', all before naming the cost themselves of the VIP accounts.
Although it's no different than most sites, It's blatantly obvious that their revenue comes from advertisers and data-mining. It comes down to trusting them for a reason, and cheap looking Java applets don't pass the mark IMO.
They need better content & new developments. They should be throwing money at this service.
The physics seem a bit off and he doesn't seem to be going that fast. Oh well.
Well..........I just signed up for a 3-month subscription, just to get my hands on 2 of those Sega Saturn pads.
I would've had to make quite an effort and/or pay a lot elsewhere to get me some official USB Saturn pads, right? This is only costing me $37.50 (you can order up to 2 additional pads with a subscription, at $12.99 + $4.99 S&H each)
nope.

And these don't have "PLAY SEGA" plastered across them like it was a party favor at Chuck E Cheese.
I can't wait till people get their hands on these Play Sega game pads only to confirm the ones all over eBay are the exact same thing (the ones that actually say Sega/SLS, not the Retrolink shitbomb pads).
$15 dollars for a USB controller? Plus 3 months VIP access? I'm sold. If they do free shipping to Australia.
Master System II, 50/60hz, RGB - MegaDrive I, RGB, 50/60hz, Region Switch
Retrwow - Aussie based retro webbie coming soon!
wow, what a huge ripoff.
what kind of idiot would actually like cloud gaming?
EDIT: oh, and the SLS SEGA Saturn USB controllers on Ebay.... kick@ss !!!
