Your spoiler won't work for those who have the blue background skin. You can use the forum's built-in spoiler filter. Just use the (spoiler) (/spoiler) tag (with brackets instead of parenthesis). You get something that looks like this.

Definitely wanna get that HD de-fragged, I'm sure direct download will just scatter files as they come to you.

Also if you have a 2nd drive in the system move the pagefile to that drive. My current system uses a 64GB SSD drive for OS, 2x 320GB Raid 0 Sata (games, downloads, scratchpad), and a 120GB IDE, I mirror the pagefile. I put a 1GB pagefile on both the 640GB and 120GB drives helps out nicely.

You may want to try this small program I found a few days ago, its called GameBooster it's free. It can defrag your game files. Also it can stop some of you programs/services before you start a game so you get more resources to feed your system. Also make sure any Anti-Virus or Spyware scanners are off.

Update video card drivers. DX runtimes, Sound card drivers (I know a few onboard soundcards had issues with this game). Dunno about your 8600GT, but my last system could handle DX9 mode on XP without any issues when )

Thanks for the info. Going to try Gamebooster when I get home but I think I just need a more powerful video card. I may go to the local computer shop and see if I could get a new one for a good price.

    And what's a page file?

I have it for the 360. I played it for like a half an hour or so, but I was kinda sleepy so I didn't get too into it. I have a bunch of 360 games that I have barely touched, this one is on the list to give a decent try one day. ATM its all ghouls and ghosts tho, I got a score to settle.

Think of the pagefile as virtual ram, just slow cause it resids on you hard drive, although some say 2GB is enough to not need the pagefile, some applications still need it, and even if you limit it to 0MB it will just create a pagefile in your windows directory. By default windows allows the pagefile to be dynamic in size and will grow as needed. The first thing to do is make it a static size so it gets less fragmentation. Then as I said if you have more than one drive do this stripping.

My recommendation with 2GB of system ram would to have 1GB to 1.5GB pagefile. Even with 8GB on my system I keep mine at 1.5GB on both drives.

EDIT: you don't have to make separate partitions, just set each drive with static sizing, same effect.

Have you tried defragmenting your harddrive? It should help decreasing the load times a little.

I played it for the first time on a single core AMD64 with a Ati X1950Pro AGP card, and it ran farely well in 1280x960, but it slowed down when there were a lot of enemies or physic activities going on (requiring CPU-power).

Ya I defragged it. I think it's just the lack of balls on my Video card but I'm going to try that thing Roguetrips been talking about.

if a new video card isn't a option, there are always tweak guides: http://www.tweakguides.com/Bioshock_1.html , I actually forgot about this but never really needed it.

Just beat the game. It played a hell of a lot better after RogueTrip's help. So, Thanks buddy. I got the gamebooster program and I split the virual memory on two drives. I saw an immediate improvement.

    Disclaimer!! Spoilers!!!

So I have to admit that after Andrew Ryan died the games story took a nose dive. I don't know what it was really, maybe the voice actor of Andrew Ryan was so good that the other guy "Atlas" Frank Fontaine couldn't really match his preformance. All in all, I have to hand it to them, it was a good twist in the storyline though but it just lost a lot of momentum.

Andrew Ryan's elitist voice going on and on about parasites and the tyrannical hand of government really filled the game with his insane ideology and I like how all the people of Rapture were conditioned over the time they spent there to think just like him. I think towards the end of the game Frank Fontaine said it the best.

"Everyone who came to Rapture thought they were going to be captain's of industry but they forgot that there is always someone who has to scrub the toilets"

Andrew Ryan catered to the elitist class and Fontaine catered to the poorer classes. They both used their social class to fight one another and in doing so, destroyed each other, the city, and were all driven mad while doing so..
