Presumably so you can play more than one stage at a time, without having to be plugged into the wall.

The Lynx has the same problem, though.

Well I've never played a Lynx before, but I googled "Lynx Battery Life" and it said it was approximately 5 hours. Even with a brand new fresh pack of batteries, I've never gotten an untethered Game Gear to go for longer than an hour and a half, tops.

So you need an hour and a half to get through a stage?

I dunno, how long does it take you? I haven't played the game. Obviously I was exaggerating a little to make a joke, but it stands to reason that it would be on a system with superior battery life. That and the developers were probably fans of the Lynx.

I can get 3 hours out of a GG with new rechargeable batteries, but I always LOL'ed at the fact that there are games (later Sonics, for example) that have no saving and take longer to complete than the Game Gear could possibly last on batteries back in the day.

On topic: at $40, I'm totally getting this, assmuing my Lynx still works (or I can find a cheap replacement.)

Your eyes popped out at the screenshots.
Your heart raced from the video preview.
You were amazed by the final product design.

After witnessing these things, a single question sprung into your mind:
    "When can I get it?"

Today, I'm happy to say that greatness is right around the corner.

Zaku, the crazy-fast new shooter for Atari Lynx, will make its public debut on October 24, 2009 at the Classic Console and Arcade Gaming Show in Cleveland, Ohio. A copy of the game will be up and running during the show, playable by all attendees. Toward the end of the day, that copy will be given away for free as a prize to one lucky person, compliments of Super Fighter Team. For more information about this event, please visit the ccagshow.com website.

    But that's not all...

We will also begin taking orders for Zaku on October 24, 2009, at the price of only USD$40.00 each + shipping and handling. As part of our continued effort to satisfy our customers, we will not be taking pre-orders for this game. Instead, all orders will be shipped out as soon as possible, once payment has been received. No waiting means you'll receive the game sooner, thus being able to enjoy it sooner - just another quality service we at Super Fighter Team are happy to provide.

Don't get too comfortable, because Zaku is coming. And it's going to open up your Lynx to a whole new world of possibilities.

The silver tongued PR fluff machine that is "Cobb" has spoken.

This looks pretty cool. I've been meaning to get a model 2 Lynx, and this might just make me pick one up.

My Lynx has been sitting in the closet for far to long. I've ordered Zaku today.

I'll gladly support the little guy for games like this.
A Black Falcon: no, computer games and video games are NOT the same thing. Video games are on consoles, computer games are on PC. The two kinds of games are different, and have significantly different design styles, distribution methods, and game genre selections. Computer gaming and console (video) gaming are NOT the same thing."

Ordered. Thanks for posting here, Adder.

And the Lynx 2 does get roughly 5 hours from 6 AA's, whereas the Lynx 1 gets about 3...

This looks awesome. I don't have a Lynx but I just wanted to comment on how great it is to see games like this still being released for old hardware. Keep up the good work Super Fighter Team.
