I never really noticed it but there are many excellent shmups on SMS.

Anyway, I know you've mentioned in your OP that you'd not want Sonic, but I still would recommend at least the first two as they're definitely better on SMS in my opinion.

The Mega Drive was far inferior to the NES in terms of diffusion rate and sales in the Japanese market, though there were ardent Sega users. But in the US and Europe, we knew Sega could challenge Nintendo. We aimed at dominating those markets, hiring experienced staff for our overseas department in Japan, and revitalising Sega of America and the ailing Virgin group in Europe.

Then we set about developing killer games.

I have the first Sonic on VC, and I still prefer the Game Gear version. More colorful.

I'm a big Shoot-em-Up guy, so I'll just list my personal favorites:

-After Burner(it's choppy, but still fun)
-R-Type(DO NOT PLAY THIS GAME WITH PSG MUSIC!!! It sound like a disorganized mess of high-pitched squeals)
-Space Harrier(it's really blocky, but plays well)
    -Thunder Blade
    -Galaxy Force
    -TransBot(this is a Sega Card)

Baloo, before getting any of the games that I've listed, you should get yourself an FM sound board to put in your Master System. All of the game's I've listed except for Thunder Blade and TransBot support FM Synthesis, not to mention R-Type in FM sounds MANY times better than in PSG.

    Renegade.

A fairly good game, and the only Sega game I have ever seen that had "Shit!" in the dialogues uncensored.

When does that actually appear in that game?

Does anybody know how long ago Wonderboy 3: Dragon's Trap was ESRB rated to be on the upcoming Wii VC list in North America?

I've been sitting on 500 points and would rather buy something on the SMS.

Lose to the final boss. (The one who shoots you with the gun on stage 4)

He then spits out the stupidly inaccurate dialogue:

    "Shit!
    You beat me!"

Indicating the people working the Sega translation for my old cart of the game (at least) suffered some kind of a brain lag.
