I cannot help but be in awe of such a a gamer with such an array of systems. Ace!
What's your favorite system?
I don't have a particular favorite but I can tell you that if any console has a Thunder Force, R-Type, or Gradius game on it, I'll definitely like it. I like everything I own, but these are my particular favorites:
-Genesis + add-ons(awesome console to modify)
-TurboGrafx 16(Shoot-em-up heaven)
-PlayStation(awesome driving games/Shoot-em-ups)
-PlayStation 2(a haven for race simulations)
-Super NES(a 16-bit powerhouse
-NES(had one since 1985, great games on it)
-Saturn(like with the TurboGrafx 16)
-Dreamcast
But there's one unit in my collection that falls at the complete bottom of my "favorite consoles" list:
The Sega Master System
Sure, it has very nice graphics for a 8-bit console, and a fancy boot-up screen(love it), but I HATE ITS SOUND PROCESSOR! Oh, God, that SN(whatever) PSG sound processor IS ATROCIOUS! Most of the time when I'm playing a Master System game, I have to mute the TV just because the music sounds like @^$@. Another thing I hate is that ONLY JAPAN got the Yamaha YM2413 FM Synthesis chip, which sounds AWESOME compared to the UNBELIEVABLY BAD PSG sound processor.
Heck yeah, Segas are the bomb! All the add-ons for the Genesis just makes it so much fun to mix and match. I'm a big fan of the Power Base ConverterI like my SNES, sure, but there aren't that many things to put on it. Agreed about the SMS sound, it's pretty ear-shattering.
Ace, do you know of a light gun for the Genesis that's good? I don't have a Menacer and don't think I even want one.

Atari 5200 X 2 (one MIB)
Atari 7800 X 2

Damn right!
Oh, yeah! I'm consistently moving my 32X over from my Model 2 to my Model 1. Hell, I don't even know which console to keep it on(though it's currently sitting in my Model 2)!
Join the club! I didn't even KNOW the Genesis was capable of Master System backwards compatibility until I heard some rumblings of the Power Base Converter. And, if you've seen my post on AtariAge(I'm Ace_1 there), Nathan, due to EXTREME difficulty in finding a cheap Power Base Converter, I made one myself, but with no card slot. I actually like the Power Base Converter so much, I was thinking of taking all the crappy sports games I can find and turn them into Power Base Converters(though only 1 of them will have a Card slot, because I only have 1 dead Master System). And I would LOVE to make one with a Yamaha YM2413 in it. I mean, hey, who wouldn't like to hear this when they start playing R-Type: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MChI7...eature=related
True, aside from copier units and the Super-8(Tri-Star) adapter. I have a copier unit myself(SuperCom Pro. 1), and I always leave it plugged into my Super Famicom(acts like a cartridge slot extension to play US Super NES carts).
Tell me about it. I think out of the games I own, the one with the worst music is R-Type. While the music for Stage 1 and boss battles is fine, the rest is absolute crap, especially the music for Stage 3(seriously, it'll make you cringe: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kE5km...eature=related)
Aside from the Konami Justifier(like on the Super NES), no.
@Ace
I saw that converter you made, that was pretty cool, now I wanna make one! I looked around for a compatible chip but the only thing I came up with after a small search was an OEM supplier-- and a $500 minimum order. I wonder if there's a different ship that can be substituted. Hmm... I do a bit of wood work, how cool would a wooden housing be?

I don't think there's a substitute available for a YM2413. You can get one from a Yamaha PSS-170 or PSR-6 keyboard(should run about 20-50 bucks), though I've had a hard time finding those, and stupid me, because I wasn't sure that the Yamaha PSR-6 had the YM2413, I let one go(damn it!).
If you can make a wooden housing like the real Power Base Converter, I say go for it. Actually, I say go for it no matter what you'll make it look like.

i have pong and a few pong clones, as well as some plug and plays and bootleg type consoles, my biggest focus are atari and sega, the two companies that focused most on bringing arcade games home
I can't find one either (along with the Duo and TG16, didn't mean to ignore you, tom). When anyone around here that is a seller thinks they have something rare or whatever they tend to jack up all the prices. So I am forced to pass on those.
Recently added: Sega Dreamcast black Sports edition ($5 at swap as parts but works great). I am thinking of doing a DC network through my PC. Mad networker, right here![]()

i found the duo last summer at a game store in cincinnati for 300 dollars. it was pricey, but fair. my wife is expecting a baby in march, so my video game splurging days are mostly over
They had a Duo at out local use Bookstore about a year ago for $150 and I even thought that was to much. I have a TG16 with the Cd the but the supercard is seems to nearly impossible to find since it was a mail order item. I could get a Japanese one but then I would have to buy a $100 adapter. Even Magic Engine costs $15. It is slightly maddening. I have a copy of Dracula X and I want to play it.
