Default Samurai Shodown Anthology (PS2) -- How do you save progress?

The manual says that you can "save game settings and progress." I just don't see how to save any game progress, ever. There doesn't appear to be an option for saving on the pause menu.

I even set it on Auto-Save, and it still doesn't save game progress...

Does anyone know how to do this???

    Thanks!

I think it's just for saving controller options and that sort of stuff. AFAIK the games are more or less original ROMs and haven't been altered for save states or regular save intervals. At least, I've never noticed it, and I have nearly all of the Neo Geo compilations. The only Neo Geo ports I'm aware of that allow saving are the ones that used memory cards at the arcade and they mimic that system.

In the original Neo-Geo version of the game, if you had a memory card in the system, you could save if, during a game, you ran out of continues and got game over or got game over and chose to not continue. When choosing start game the next time you then would be able to choose to continue from the stage you left off at or start a new game. I don't know if that feature is in this collection though, I don't have it... too bad, I love the Samurai Shodown series and would love to have this. It's just so rare and hard to find, I never saw a copy around here, and I did look some. Samurai Shodown IV particularly is one of my favorite fighting games...

Neither could I. I had kept an eye out, and never seen it in any stores. Finally I combed through the internet and the only place I found that was truly selling it was ebay auctions!

When I bought my copy a few weeks ago, there actually were none at all on Amazon, which was the first site I tried. I really could find no place to buy it besides ebay auctions, which was definitely not my first choice! (Amazon would have been.) I also found a number of different sites that appeared to be selling the game at first, but actually were completely out of stock. They just didn't take down their ads and their links.

Lol, the prices now are crazy. The game was only released new a few months ago. (Wikipedia says it was just released at the end of March '09 in Europe, and mid-April '09 for N. America. Japan however got theirs in July of 2008!) Perhaps the number of copies made for the PS2 was very low. There seem to be more than enough copies floating around for other systems though.

Interesting. It is good to know. It kind of gives me hope that game progress can indeed be saved somehow. I will try what you just described, to see if it will save my progress...

    And yes, SSIV is awesome!!!

You can save your controller and viewing config and when you change the colors of the sprites in the color modification section. That's it I believe

This game has become expensive and in demand now for some reason.

I hear if you scope out Wal-Mart and K-mart and the like you'll be able to find it cheap.

Well, I mean, this game was basically sold out/rare before it was even really out. They apparently made very few copies of it and IIRC it's the only way to play Samurai Shodown VI. I basically just bought it to round off my PS2 Neo Geo collection, I really haven't touched it since I tested it. King of Fighters 98 Ultimate Match is way better IMO (FINALLY you can play single player!)
