This is certainly one of the most awesomEST ever!
Soul Edge/Blade did indeed have an amazing intro. I find that if the music is awesome, it really, REALLY helps how much I like it. Dialog bores me.
Just captured/made this attract mode video for Spriggan Mark 2. Best Compile shooter ever.

I don't play old stuff for nostalgia, I play old stuff because the games are better.

Heh, I realized the ST intro for Starglider has an odd similarity to that:

Edit: that's just a comment, not one of my favorite attract sequences
Now these on the other hand, are awsome:

And come to think of it th eoriginal Silpheed has a pretty great intro sequence as well (PC8801 is the true original, but I really like the EGA DOS with MT-32 rendition)

The first thing I thought of when I saw the threat title was Daytona, and sure enough it was in the first post. ROOOOLLLLLLLLLIINNNNNNNNNNGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG STAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRTTTT! !!!!
I really loved those light, breezy rock soundtracks SEGA pumped into the arcades in the nineties with games like Daytona, SEGA Rally, Virtua Fighter et al.
For non-arcade games, somehow the one that sticks out most to me is the opening for Blaster Master on the NES. Makes it look so epic, and the music is boss:
"Enduro" is a symbolic journey through life via the media of a race.
