Default Final Fantasy XIII Release Date Announced

Today, a 5 minute trailer/release announcement was released by SquareEnix.

    http://media.xbox360.ign.com/media/1...74/vids_1.html

Looks like March 9th, 2010 is the first major rlease day next year. The trailer also showed off the new battle system, which looks... confusing? It's in real-time! So that's something. But can it match XII's brilliant system?

This game doesn't have me hyped at all. I guess I'm a bit Final Fantasy-tired. I really liked the story and setting of FF XII, but the battle system just didn't work for me. MMO-style battle systems are not my cup of tea anyway, and with XII you've got this weird system where you're basically pre-programming your characters and then crossing your fingers it has the right effect in practice. It's kinda fun at first but once things start to get complicated, the lack of control becomes frustrating. I really want to finish the game sometime, but first I have to find some way of making the battle system and myself compatible.

As for FF XIII, it looks like it goes back to the style of VIII and X, which looks all too familiar to me. The setting, the characters, the story, the battles, the hype, they all evoke a big 'meh' from me. I'll probably get the game at some point, but at the moment I'm not psyched.

No, it's unbiased analysis. The only fanboyism is people who claim that Hyperstone Heist and Bloodlines are actually as good as their SNES counterparts.

When first playing the Demo of FFXII coming with Dragon Quest 8, the battle system was the only thing you could get a grasp of, it immediately took a big shit over expectations. I hated it. Everything was OP too.

Having finally played the game upon release, it was acceptably refined & introduced properly. (The story being good helped too.)
I think it's an appropriate 'template' for the next half dozen titles.
As it's essentially a single player MMO engine, with a heavy reliance on Macros.

Being a fan of Phantasy Star 4, I have no problem with macros in RPGs

It was also linear, without the 'feeling' of being linear like FFX.
It was more like playing Star Wars KOTOR, than FFX

Now, FFXIII's main problem is Square Enix's 1945843 different titles sharing the same name IMO. A bastard trend I'm not fond of. Since I haven't liked a Final Fantasy 'true sequel/spinoff' as much as 'a new entry in the series' yet. Crisis Core FFVII was 'almost' good, but it gave missions that you can miss, a button mashing system, and made you too powerful.

I would be happier if someone crazy at Squeenix took over, stopped FF branding everything they created, and started churning out more originals. I'm sure there's somebody over there with some originality. After all, they're essentially "Eidos, Taito, Enix, & Squaresoft."

So would I. So would I.

Its sickening to know see Sega sit on some truly great IPs or just totally bastardized them.

As far as Final Fantasy, I loved VII, X, and gave for years of my life to XI. XII was okay, I just didnt care about the characters at all. I just couldnt complete the game because I just didnt give a damn about Vaan, Basch, Penelope, or any other person in that damn game.

I am kind of hyped for XIII though. Even if its only because there has not been 1 single good JRPG this gen.

It looks like they're taking a couple steps back from FFXII, in which case I am decidedly not interested.

Looking forward to it. Need a change to get away from the shooters for a bit.
