See this is one of the reasons why comparing different games is even more a matter of opinion, the majority of people actually say that Alien 3 is a much better game on Mega Drive, and that the SNES version is an unfocussed, confusing and tedious mess with only nice graphics as a plus point.

At least when comparing the same game you can do it like for like (ie game #2 has more animation frames in its sprites than game #1 etc)

That's what I meant when I said Supers.
Sorry for not describing it more accurately, but my mind went blank at that moment.

I agree completely with all those statements.
I also agree that Rondo blows away Dracula X.

I still personally feel Dracula X was just way too much of a step backwards in control to say it's better than Bloodlines.
Both attempt to play like classic Castlevania, and we can certainly both agree that Super Castlevania, and Rondo of Blood are the pinacle of classic Castlevania.
So it doesn't really matter if we think Bloodlines > Dracula X or not.

Actually, I think Alien³ is a highly contested game, where many people say the other version is better.
Genesis easily has the better graphics too...except for the SNES flamethrower, which is pretty awesome.

On the Genesis though, enemies attack you cheaply, spawning out of the ground a few feet away.
There's no fight with the Queen, you have to rescue tons of people in every mission (though the clips of them dying if you don't save them are awesome) or you can't exit the level...that's tedious.

I liked the Genesis version more before we finished the side by side too.
    It changed my mind.

I agree the SNES version was unfocussed...until I figured out how to get my missions started.
Then I think it was pretty focused...and felt since I could do whichever I chose to first, it was more user friendly and open ended.

I agree it's harder to compare games if they aren't like for like.

Genesis had the ending where Ripley lived...
SNES had the ending where Ripley died falling into the fire...

Also, IMHO Genesis had the better music, and SNES the better SFX and VFX.

Which one would you give it to after beating both??
Both were pretty boring by their ends.
Both were tedious, but SNES varied the missions.

Genesis got the occasional Mayhem mission, or Guardian mission...but the SNES missions were mostly all varied and different.

I like most of the music in Bloodlines, 1st level music is great, some is so so, but in general the type of FM music I like. The remixes of the 8-bit tracks were nice too, maybe not on par with CVIV's, but I enjoyed them.

I do think they should have used sampled drums instead of FM drums. (at least for some of the time, and maybe some other percussion sounds as well) Kind of weird since Konami did use percussion samples on CVIII at least for NES (though they sounded a bit better on Famicom, not sure if that's from the added sound chip or not though; and Konami did use samples in other NES games too, like Top Gun 2nd mission).

Some of the sound effecs sound right on (particularly power-ups and item pick-ups), but some definitley don't feel right. The sampled sfx are pretty coarse, some are OK though. (I've definitely heard better sample playback on the Genesis, even with multi-channel mixing)

I believe every system should have a remake of the Castlevania level 1 within it

TG16 got it in Rondo of Blood
    Bloodlines got it in Bloodlines
    SNES seriously missed out.
And Super Castlevania is a remake of 1, so come on...why isn't that classic level 1 in there?!

Bloodlines 1up'd it too with the werewolf boss.
Felt so epic...just like the Bat felt in Castlevania 1.
Like the nerd said "I beat Dracula!" (that's not what I thought when I was a kid, but hey, it felt epic is the point)
