Well, you've got company, since I beat it recently, and I kinda enjoyed it too. In any objective sense it's a pretty lousy game, but there's something pleasantly tranquilizing about it, like having a drink after a long day at work. Maybe it's the plinkety-plonk music.
Anyway, since my earlier posts I've got a few to add, assuming we parse "love" as "enjoy". The big one is Shadow of the Beast, which gets savaged for its artificially high speed and poorly ported music. Maybe so, but I had a blast playing through it and beating it -- I can't think of too many games I enjoyed more in 2011.
Others that come to mind, though not with nearly the enjoyment level of SOTB:
Ariel: The Little Mermaid, Art of Fighting, Curse, Fatal Labyrinth, Toys: Let The Toy Wars Begin, Wirehead for Sega CD (though some people acknowledge it as one of the best FMV games), Metal Head and Motocross for 32X. And WarpSpeed, yes.
I'm also a fan of the Smurfs platformers on SMS and Genesis, though I haven't gotten into Smurfs 2 on the Genesis yet since the differences from the SMS version kind of annoyed me. You could maybe throw in B.O.B. and Cosmic Spacehead too, though the latter gets positive reviews from some. I thought it was good fun.
Fantasia was mentioned earlier in the thread -- I didn't especially like it, but (blasphemy alert) I think I liked it about as much as I liked Castle of Illusion. Maybe even a bit more.

Eternal Champions for sure.
It gets little love![]()
Apparently Syd of Valis
Vectorman. It gets labeled alot as a tech demo, but it sure is a fun tech demo.
It is finished!
Vectorman
Sonic 3D Blast
Global Gladiators
Jurassic Park
"Kageki" - I've always found this game fun, and I never understood why so many hate it. The gameplay is simple and straightforward, and while it may seem a bit repetitive, the game to me, is just too short for anyone to really complain. I've even beat it on hard mode.
I'll also agree with QuickSciFi on "Syd of Valis". Yuko may be super-deformed, but for the most part, the gameplay is still there, and it's unique appearance from the original Valis II makes it fun to play every so often.
Genesis = The Pagemaster. Not that I love it or anything but it's decent and oldfashioned.
------- = Indiana Jones. Inferior to the Taito NES game but otherwise still good enough; even more oldfashioned than ^.
------- = Chakan. People hate it, but then they're often the sort who like the McDonald's game.
------- = Eternal Champions. As I said in a duplicate thread made after this one had been mislaid awhile.
------- = Zero Wing. Best Mega Drive shooter. Great graphics, music, and programming (no slowdown).
------- = Hellfire. Really not hard on any setting. Not quite up to ZW's height though.
------- = Sol Deace. Best shooter on the Genesis.
NES = Star Wars. Oddly this reminds me of The Pagemaster for its excessive leaps and Culkin like protagonist sprite.
= TMNT. A little cracked in play and remarkably broken in enemy sprites (the Foot look like upright slugs) but still a good game.
= Mighty Bomb Jack. Ahh does this one get hard.
= Super Pitfall. Like an inspired homebrew: all over the place in the best way.
Playstation = games with polygons. (Avert your eyes eddiespruce).
---------- = Johnny Bazookatone. The friendliest version of this game. Atrocious music but luckily I can tune it out. Plays smooth and fast.
---------- = Dino Crisis. It is mediocre but I find it a step up in every way from the painfully dull RE series.
...that's enough.
1. World Heroes. Most people say that the Neo Geo version is a mediocre Street Fighter clone and many consider the Sega Genesis version to be absolute trash. Even though the Genesis port isn't an excellent game, it is still playable and fairly fun in my opinion. The Neo Geo version is one of my all time favorite arcade fighting games, even though there are many more that surpass it in terms of graphics, sound, game play, and fun factor.
2. Shaq Fu is a fairly good game with awesome graphics, a good soundtrack, decent sound effects, and the controls and game play are good enough if you can get the timing down for the special attacks (which, I'll admit, is a bit of a pain at first.) Even though I don't exactly love the game, it is definitely not the worst fighting game out there as many of the "professional" reviewers would lead you to believe.
3. Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 on the SNES gets a lot of hate for being really buggy. I've really only had the game pull off some weird crap (such as screen distortion) when a bunch of cheat codes are activated. Other than that, those issues don't occur when I play the game without any cheat codes activated.
The Adventures of Batman and Robin
Beavis and Butt-Head
Up-up-down-down-up-up....DAMMIT!
Theme Park - Yes it has some lag once your park is full, but it is essentially a PC game ported for the MD, and it didn't sacrifice much. There is tons of depth and all of the gameplay is in tact. I think it's an achievement for the MD hardware. And I love it. It was one of my favs growing up.
One game that that recieves a high level of criticism but that I enjoy is "Last Battle". I must admit that when I got this game, I hated it with a passion. I played all my other titles but refrained from pulling this one off the shelf. That was until one rainy day I was bored out of my mind and was trying to figure out what I could do to pass the time.
Ah! Last Battle!
It was also the last game that I needed to be beat! And so, I plugged it into the Genesis and began to play.
Now as you may know, the core game is a little bit repetitive. But one thing that always drove me forward were the boss battles. One thing that I could appreciate in this game was the design of the boss sprites. They were very anime-esque in appearance and as you progress through the game, the bosses get progressively harder.
The other thing is that the basic movements are a little bit rigid until you figure out how to combine those movements to make you flow through the level faster and smoother.
If you spend enough time with this title, it slowly grows on you. If you have not played the game to completion, I highly recommend you give the game another try.
