Hey wow, those nuances really do make the game better. I'm not sure I have figured these things out before. I'll have to give it another look.

Yeah, various characters having more analog sensitivity to their ranged attacks seems like it would totally change the gameplay for the better.

I mean the assist attacks.
I think it's more the enemy placement. Even on the first level, it seems like enemies come from out of nowhere. Especially those stupid little flies. I wouldn't say it's impossible, I could probably beat it if I really forced myself through it. It's just frustrating to the point where I give up quickly out of annoyance.Level design, is it the jumping that's hard for you? Maybe if you give me an example, I can give you advice. Really, I am not a game expert especially on platform games but I don't think this game is impossible.
Both are difficult games for sure. I'm pretty good with action games; I've beaten a lot of relatively tough ones like Battletoads, Shadow of the Beast, Contra Hard Corps, Dynamite Headdy, etc. X-Men just irritates me.I saw another thread here complaining about how hard Battletoads was. Or maybe it was Battletoads & Double Dragon? I never bought either game but at least one of them was fairly difficult when I tried it.
You just can't handle my jawusumness responces.
I guess it's a matter of preference. I like them as it feels like you're part of a bigger team. I think it looks cool when you're playing co-op and use two assists at the same time so that there are X-Men everywhere! 8-)
Also:
On the first level, enemies will be hiding in the trees but you can spot them moving if you look carefully. They won't jump out into the open and attack until you get closer.
The jungle wasps are only on the first level. You can eliminate them by finding and knocking down their nests. Plus, their nests always have a health power-up inside!

A while ago i posted that I believe that the game "Last Battle" is a game that I personally enjoy that others detest. In the past, I've argued a number of times the value of a good old school SEGA sports title and how they are under-appreciated.
A sports title that I thoroughly enjoyed back in the day was "World Championship Soccer". It was one of the first 12 games that I originally owned and which received high replay value. That was until I lent it to a school friend who never returned it back.
I have not played that game for 21 or 22 years and last night I finally found a replacement. I plugged the cartridge in and charged the little black beast up. Much to my amazement, the colors were more vibrant than what I expected. It is quite a colorful bright game but one thing that I always enjoyed above all else was the music. It captured the sport of soccer (for my brethren in Europe and rest of the world "football") perfectly. I am quite aware that the game does not adhere strictly to the rules of soccer but damn, that game is so much fun. It was 1:30 in the morning when I started playing the game and after 1 and a half hours in front of the television I realized I should have gone to bed earlier. Ah well! It was worth it!
I still remember first getting the game back in the summer of 1990 and really digging that game's soundtrack. It was a sweltering outside and I parked myself in front of the television and began playing the game. I remember that it took me sometime to figure out the controls. Ironically, when I began playing that game, it was as if I had not forgotten the controls. I was tapping on that control as if I was an expert pianist. Scoring multiple goals left, right and centre. I guess when you enjoy a game so much, you really never forget the techniques and controls.
So, in closing I now recant my earlier statement and will submit that "World Championship Soccer is the game I enjoy playing that most people would consider bad (only because it is an old school sports game!)

I do like Eternal Champions; Especially love the CD game.
I've been growing a love for BUDOKAN very slowly, over the last couple years. Only play once in a while but what a cool game! I always wanted a realistic, lifelike fighting game, as an alternative to all these fighting games with fantasy elements and impossible moves.
The stamina and ki bars are actually pretty cool once u get used to them. Your guy can't exhaust himself and u need to rest sometimes in the match, to recharge stamina (basically the life bar) and ki (a bar for the force of ur attacks). Also when it's drained the character has trouble doing some moves so 1st impressions, probably everyone just thinks the controls are broken. lol They're not, just unique. You can't walk like normal, as forward and back just make diff. stances, and walking is pressing diagonals down/left or down/right.
Also the general atmosphere of the game is just relaxing & soothing. Music is soft and nice, and the silence during fights is fine by me.
I would have to say Beetlejuice (NES), and Asterix: The Great Rescue (MD).
Beetlejuice is just terrible,... but fun.
I would understand why somebody wouldn't like Asterix. Its a hard game, the object collision in the game sucks, cheap deaths, etc... But I've played it longer than any other game I own, ever sence I first played the genesis, and I haven't even got passed the 7th room. Yet I still play it to this day
Ecco, I'm really glad to hear that you've grown a fondness for "Budokan". Most people assume that it is a straight 1 on 1 fighter but there is a bit more strategy thhan meets the eye. As you've rightly pointed out, the stamina and ki bars add a pretty interesting me dynamic to the game. Budokan is not the prettiest game but it is definitely one of the more unique ones in the genre! If you take your time to master the controls, it is quite a fun title! I personally enjoyed using the bo staff since it has the best range! Karate is the quickest in terms of delivering a strike against an opponent! Nunchuks and Kendo a dibilitating blow if you use it when ki is at it's peak!
One thing that I never got a chance to test out was playing against an expert player. Every challenger I've come across ends up flopping over like a rag doll in a matter of seconds!![]()

I'm actually surprised that people bash Golden Axe III. It's a really good game. Not SoR2 or SoR3-quality, but still really good. And it's million times better than Golden Axe 2.
Also I like Eternal Champions and its Sega CD sequel.
RE: Golden Axe III - Agreed! I have no idea what people are smoking. It's one of my favorite MD games.
The Mega Drive was far inferior to the NES in terms of diffusion rate and sales in the Japanese market, though there were ardent Sega users. But in the US and Europe, we knew Sega could challenge Nintendo. We aimed at dominating those markets, hiring experienced staff for our overseas department in Japan, and revitalising Sega of America and the ailing Virgin group in Europe.
Then we set about developing killer games.

Golden Axe III had disapointing graphics. I wanted sprites, animation, and detail on par with the quality of SOR 2 or 3.
Rockman Mega World and Bare Knuckle III
I love these games.
